Strange Substances Pack 1 and 2

When using the shaders [from Strange Substances Pack 1 and 2] it just turn the object black when rendered, ive been playing with it for an hour or so. Ive used 5+ lights on in I dont see emmisons anywhere to mess with. Anyone know how to get it working

    Are you trying to render with Iray? These are 3DL shaders, so they will not work properly with Iray.

    You were correct, I was using Iray......why that doesnt work tho......

    Iray translates some other shaders on the fly, but not all channels are recognized or transferred. For example, the "emissive" property in the original shader (AoA Subsurface) is really an ambient property, which apparently does not translate to emissive in Iray. The rest of the effect is Subsurface Scattering, which also might be difficult to handle in translation.

    There is a similar Iray product that has some wild patterns. Strange and Unusual Iray Shaders. Not quite the variety, but you could adapt the Strange Substances 3DL presets by inserting the bitmaps into appropriate channels in an Iray shader preset to get a similar effect. Strange and Unusual only uses one coloured bitmap (albeit an HDRI image) and a couple of variations of a B&W version for Bump and Luminance. Should be easy to set up. (Normal maps might be more of a challenge.)
