Turn down scene light intensity

Is there any way to turn down the intensity of the scene light? I don't want to bother with creating custom lights, because I'm just posing figures for drawing reference, but sometimes, depending on the clothing the models are wearing, the renders come out overexposed, and detail is lost.

two different ways to do it , the first would be under render settings , then open the enviroment settings and lower the setting for enviroment intensity ... the other is to turn down the headlamp on the camera so long as your not just using the default camera ..
Thanks!
Is this for Iray or 3DL? If for Iray, you're generally better off leaving the light intensity on the high side, and then adjusting the xposure using the Tone Mapping settings. If you're familiar with photographic principles, the f/stop, shutter speed, and ISO controls act as they do in a camera. For example, going from f/8 (the default) to f/11 is one full stop less exposure, and will halve the amount of light reaching the Iray camera.
The reason for doing it this way is that Iray tends to render faster when there is sufficient light in the scene.
If you use LuxRender with Reality or Luxus you can turn down individual lights in real time as your scene renders.
The camera (in Daz Studio 4.8) is set at f/22. Turning down the camera's headlamp worked great.
The f/22 is only for the depth of field control on the camera itself, and has no effect on the brightness of the scene. As I noted, you adjust the exposure levels with the Tone Mapping controls in the Render panel.
I think you might have answered my question about the head showing through in renders. I haven't tried this yet, but will. Thank you, Jim
