Adding SSS to a figure?

A search brought me this:

But I got stuck at "turn on the velvet node," a term seemingly known only to the author. Plus it's from 2012. I really like the "glow" on some of the SSS textures, so I'd like to add the effect to some of my old favorite materials, if I can. I mostly work with G1-2-3, if that matters.

First off, which product are you using? (Studio, Carrara, Poser)
Which renderer? (if Studio...3Delight, Iray, Octane, Luxrender)
Which shader? (If Studio...Ubersurface or AoA SSS for 3 Delight, Iray Uber for Iray)
RawArt's tutorial is for the HSS shader...the settings are pretty much the same, but more of them for the UberSurface shader that 'replaces' it. Look in the Shader (or Shader Presets) in the Content Library, ctl-left click to load it. In the dialogue box that pops up select "Ignore"...that will leave the current texture maps in place and then scroll through the settings in the Surface tab/pane. They are not in the same order as the HSS of the tutorial, but they are there...
Guess I forgot about this thread. I just found it with a site search, because the topic is of interest again. I've been converting G3F iray materials to 3DL using the free script from this forum, but just realized it doesnt create SSS. I'd like some way to add it. I tried the method mjc suggested, but it doesn't work. I'm well familiar with CTRL-clicking and selecting "ignore," but for some reason it doesn't work on materials created by the conversion script. Instead it strips everything down to a blank material.
I haven't used the script, so not sure, but did you try to save the converted material as a materials preset, then load it and apply the omnifreaker UberSurface shader?
