Thanks for letting us use your old software
I can install D|S2 if I wanted to as many time and on as many computers as I want (and it was free as is DAZ studio still)
Likewise Carrara 5, Bryce5 etc
and for this I am very gratefull
I occassionly want to open an old file and have had to
and I can uninstall it afterwards and rinse repeat as often as I wish
My harddrive failed on my latest computer last week and I have used up all the seats for another company's programs and can no longer install software I paid for and have serial numbers for
and they no longer offer support so cannot even remedy this
I am angry enough to NEVER BUY A PRODUCT FROM THEM AGAIN
I do not recommend Reallusion products to anyone now or for that matter Vue (did not spend as much there fortunately)
DAZ customer service know I put my money where my big mouth is

I had the same issue with Adobe and my legal, licensed products I bought from their website. Tired of throwing money at a black hole.
Thank you to DAZ for being their when I have had to rebuild too many times due to hardware failures.
I now make many backups of a lot of other companies download install files and save everywhere.
Mary
it's no good having backups of installers when their online verification still works to not allow it
And people wonder why I don't keep valuable data in "The Cloud". Shi.., um, er, bankruptcies happen, companies explode, and they really don't care about you, unless their feet are held to the fire and then it depends on how much they value their feet.
I also believe it redundant backups locally saved. Portable drive are inexpensive and offer peace of mind.
As for software, I have properly functioning version with fully paid for licensed software, being used on my older computers that are not connected to the net. Updates ofr either windows or the software, or the graphics drivers, can make software with perpetual paid for licenses unusable or unsupported.

The cloud by definition seems a little wispy and intangible. Always save to your own local drives and hardware.
I finally did manage to install Crazytalk 8
it was hidden and a PITA to navigate to but I found a way to reset my count on their site in an obscure tab called "more information"
last time I had to do that it didn't work as the computer had to verify it
I will need to do the same for iClone6 if I install it
Tis the reason I have all my Daz content downloaded and backed up as well. Ya just never know ;)
...I have backups of all my software installers (Incuding Daz all the way back to ver. 1.8).
the point is I do have backups and serial numbers of my old software
its the need to call home that's the issue
there are others that come to mind but most were free so cannot complain
123DCatch is one
Poser 8-10 has the library needing Flash issue
a text to speech one I used to use now has its verification site which expired linked to a malware as does the one for my old Android TV!
I've been saying all along that "the cloud" is the perfect name for it. It looks big and impressive from a distance, but there just isn't much substance to it.
That sucks losing that one, it was kinda useful... I had it on an old laptop and never really got a chance to use it for anything before it went away... I regret being too distracted and never downloading it on my desktop when it was new.
Now you need at least two programs to do the same thing... Though I imagine that soon enough someone will streamline that with an AI enhanced program that will require far less images (not counting 3D model generating AI applications).
This. I've had that problem with multiple programs from a variety of software companies. Aaargh. Sorry you are going through this Wendy. Aaargh.
Me too. I've been keeping storage salesmen happy since 1998(my 1st PC at home). And longer if you consider old 8mm data tapes, and 9-track, reel-to-reel tapes with 4 decade old UNIX programs & data and email. But in an unexpected moment of sanity I dumped my box of punchcards. Anybody got an 8mm data tape reader?
Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble, especially with iclone, I know you really enjoyed it.
I've had similar experiences too. With a few exceptions where I can't find a workable free or open source alternative, I've moved completely away from any software with server based protection schemes. I just got a new laptop because my old one is acting like the video card or display is trying to die (I use it for work and for "play"). I got two of the four commercial "phone home" licenses I rely on transferred last night. I'm not sure one of the others will transfer/re-authorize, so it may just stay on the old laptop (long story, but I definitely can't afford to purchase a new license). Thankfully there is an open source alternative for it now, but none of the projects in the old software can be opened in the open source software (exported data cab be used with other software).
I dispise software protection schemes!! Over the years I have lost the use of thousands of dollars invested in software because of them. Everytime I use Blender, Gimp, QGIS, Shotcut, DarkTable, CloudCompare, etc. I'm very thankful for the open source alternatives. I'm also very thankful for free software like DAZ Studio and DaVinci Resolve that have no authorization headaches. I used Hitfilm for video editing for a few years, but I hated their complex draconian authorization process. Then I found Shotcut (open source) and DaVinci Resolve (free version, no authorization process at all, you just have to create an account to download), between the two I can do everything I need.
So sorry you're having to go through this! I definitely feel your pain and frustration.
Wait, we can install and use older versions of DAZ Studio? Which one is the newest one that will load Victoria 4 instead of a bunch of colorless blocks or invisible forms you can pose?
I tested Victoria 4.2 in Studio version 4.21.0.5 and she works fine. But it is a Poser-type figure, and must be loaded as "Poser Formats" in the Content library.
Yes, if you have the install file and serial number. I download the install files for everything in my Product Library. I have Daz Studio 4.21 on my newer laptop and 4.15 on an older laptop. I just loaded Victoria 4.2 into the 4.15 version. The system won't let me attach the screen shot, however.
I loaded Victoria 4.2 into DS 4.15 from Smart Content.
V4 seems to work for me too..
There is no way I would ever CONSIDER giving my money to a******* rent-ware peddlers, I was fortunate enough to be a student when I tried vue, and was going to purchase it fully, until I learned that those greedy f**** wanted a f****n' monthly fee!
So thank you Daz for staying on the right path!
And it's all thanks to adobe as all it takes is ONE company to ruin it for all, now these greedy p***** want to charge for program updates!
So thank you Daz for staying true!
well 14K+ in DIM, the DAZ marketting strategy and software model works as far as grabbing my coin goes
I am having a lot of issues after installing new hardware but it hasn't stopped my buying stuff from DAZ even today
I have been using two versions of Victoria 3 in DS 4.21, so Victoria 4.2 should work.
Regards,
Richard
IMO one of the biggest reason for the big push for computer makers to stop support of windows 7, so you have to buy new Apps, Yes that's correct they are nothing more than apps,. Standalone software is a thing of the past and I don't know of anyone offering standalone software accept for daz3d..
If you buy a new windows11 it will kill off any use of older adobe Photoshop or Autodesk software and plugins. those will have to be replaced at 4x the cost of 2012 prices.
Thats one of the biggest reasons why I am moving out of graphic art and design business and into commercial sUAV piloting
Ai can create ,render and print a 3d image or animation in fraction of the time it takes me to do it at 1/4 of the cost and its flawless . so why bother competing with Ai
Ai going to be The Graphic Artist nemesis, the times are a changing
I try and keep away from the store as I'm trying to save money as I plan to relocate states, I say trying, as the pull is so seductive to my wallet! xD
...AI may be a nemisis to commercial artists in various media. However, if, like myself, you get enjoyment, relaxation and satisfaction out of "pushing pixels around" it's inconsequential. Crikey I still have and use an old 35mm SLR that uses film (and film photography is coming back into popularity).
As to older software not working in W11, I'll still have my second system which will remain on W7 Pro I need the update for my main workstation to get a higher memory ceiling (W7 Pro only supports 24 GB) so I can render "heavy" scenes (and possibly snag a 4060Ti with 16 GB VRAM) as well as be able to keep up with future Daz and Blender updates.
Ahhh, Vue. Don't get me started. Vue d'Esprit 2 was my VERY first 3D program (and was brand new when I discovered it). I only got Poser so that I could send the people and animals to Vue ;). I'd have it today if it weren't for their money-grabbing rentware. Oh well, c'est la vie ;)....**sigh**
...yeah software by subscription is a pretty raw deal. Was really disappointed when my favourite clothing creation software went that route.
