Adding Dirt to a Primitive?

I've created some primitive objects and want to dirty them up. "Touch of Dirt" seemed promising, but read the fine print and the shell it creates is independent of the geometry so it can't be used if I'm animating the primitives (the dirt would remain in place). Any ideas on adding dirt to something that is being animated?

I've found I can move the primitives and the "touch of dirt" stays with them. This wouldn't work for a rigged item.
Are you sure? I use it on Actors all the time.
I'm just going by what the pdf instruction say...and basing that on my experience with Look At My Hair, a shell based product in which the shell doesn't move with the underlying figure. I'll try animating dirt and see how it goes.
