Is RTX4070 equal to 3090TI in term of DAZ rendering?

40 series is newer.
Google says RTX4070 equal to 3090TI. Maybe for gaming.
But 4070 in term of cuda core is almost half the 3090 TI.
Is RTX4070 equal to 3090TI in term of DAZ rendering?
So is the number of cuda core still relevant?

    No way... the peer of 4070 should be 3070ti... and Yes, the number of CUDA cores is still relevant.

    Comparing the number of CUDA cores between cards of different generations doesn't really work, as the preformance of those cores will not be the same. A newer generation card can be more efficient despite having less cores because those cores have higher performance.

    In this case though I think the 3090 is still more performant than 4070 which is mid-range of the 40xx series. It also has more VRAM.

    Yeah, I'm worried about this.

    In that thread how do people limit their power usage 90%, 80%, etc.

    If you have Geforce experience installed hit alt-z and then go to the performance section.

    Or download and run MSI afterburner. Works with any brand of card. Make sure you're getting it from an MSI website.

    For a 30 series card undervolting may be a better tactic. Use MSI afterburner, lots of tutorials on the web.

    I had Zotac holo amp. But it's blazing hot up to 96-100c in 2 mins, and it kept me worry everytime I rendered.
    I did open it to change the pads, now it get shorted.
    I'm pretty traumatic.

    I wish a GPU that didn't have thermal problem, so I don't have to open it in the future.
    Or... at least one that has the least thermal problem.
    But please exclude the card with water cooling solution.
    Cause I don't have the money for that.
     I probably hit the 3080TI 12 gb than 3090 24gb. For the budget sake. But I would like to know about 3090 24gb too.

    My 2yo 3090 started failing on renders so I took it back for a warranty claim. The time to repair/replace was suggested by the retail store to be 2-3 months which was annoying and unworkable for me so I bought a 4070 (at about half the price I paid for the 3090, originally). I have to say that, apart from the reduction (by half) in VRAM which means I have to be more careful in my scene compositions, the render time of the 4070 is not far short of the 3090. That's just a guestimate really, I didn't run any benchmarks but I don't notice a big difference.

    Since all this happened I have learned that the 3090 is prone to failing due to over-heating which surprises me because the product boasted about throttling to prevent over-heating. Anyhow, I will be happy enough if they honour my warranty claim and send me a replacement but I am thinking I might sell that and buy a 4060ti 16GB to go with my 4070.

    Yeah, I was worried I will repeat the same heat problem again by buying 3080ti / 3090.
    I notice my 3060 12 gb is very cool relative to 3080ti 12 gb after each rendering.
    The fan doesn't even spin at default setting.
    And I don't feel the heat wave like I used to with 3080ti. (it's outside the case)
    Although it took around twice-ish as 3080ti to render.
    I was thinking maybe I should just buy another 3060 12gb.
    But 4060ti with 16gb or 4070 seems to be a better idea considering the price and performance.

    What is your temp when rendering with 4070?

    I'm in New Zealand so it is mid-winter here (no heat wave for us right now). Room temp is 19 deg C (about 66 deg F).

    This guide is a good undervolt tutorial. Undervolting helps thermals, a lot. Like the highest I have seen since i undervolted my 4090 is 70, and that's rendering, playing VR games. Didn't notice and drop in performance either.

    How much more is a 4070TI to a 4070 as here is a thourough and unambiguous assessment (4070TI 5% faster than a 3090TI)?

    @nonesuch00, you can get pretty much the same results for yourself at opendata.blender.org. I'm sure both are accurate, but Blender has a way bigger data set to work with and you can compare any cards you want. Also, you can benchmark your own card and upload the results.smiley

    Soooo.... Finally I bought myself a 4070ti PNY 12GB.
    The temp was only 66c when rendering.
    Usually 3080 ti will reach 96-98c in 2 mins.
    And the power draw is only 151W. More than a half of 3080ti.

    Thanks to marble. His suggestion avoids me from buying the same problem.

    So.. I tried undervolting using MSI after burner. But the curve seems has no effect.
    So normaly under full load, the
    voltage is 1091 mv,
    clock speed 2880mhz.

    I change the graph, 1050mv to 2880Mhz, apply

    But GPU-z still indicating it still draws the same voltage and temp still the same.

    Just an update in case any other thread(s) where I discuss this have not been followed, my warranty claim for the dead 3090 was approved and I ended up buying a new 4080 and selling the 4070 on our local equivalent of eBay (called TradeMe).The 4080 is impressive as it is probably just as quick (if not quicker) than the 3090 and draws a lot less power (though more than the 4070) and is not showing high temperatures. The main reason, however, was that the 4080 has 16GB compared to the 12GB of the 4070 and, since I had a full refund for the 3090 I could afford it. In fact I still have a tidy sum left over even after losing a bit on the trade of the 4070.

    The new 4080 is an ASUS ProArt OC 16GB.

    Ah yes 16 gb... I was thinking about it... but it costs my arms and legs.

    I was wondering what's the tag proart means. What's the difference with the non proart prodcut?  other than size.

    I got the impression when I was going through all the promo blurb that the ProArt is aimed at people like us rather than gamers although, of course, it will do both. A bit like - if I understand it corectly - the difference between the NVidia drivers Studio vs Game Ready versions.

    BTW I want to inform about my gpu temp. At the beginning the temp only reach 66c.

    but now my PNY 4080ti reaches 72c.

    Not sure is this due to ambient temp or something else.
