How do I copy a skin texture onto a geometry shell?

I know I've done it with genesis 8 and the soft skin transitions but I can't seem to do it with a regular geoshell. I am wanting to take the skin from Genesis 9 Oso Cat and put it onto a geometry shell, and use the hide fur maps to make my own custom fur cutouts for this character. I want to give him selectively furry parts, not just a whole cat.

But as much as I try copying and pasting it from a loaded g9 character with the skin on it it will not copy over. Is there something I need to do to prepare it?

The skin shader of that Cat must be PBRSkin. You have to apply PBRSkin shader to the geoshell surfaces first before copy/paste...

Yes, you have to apply the corresponding shader to the geoshell first (either iray Uber or PBRSkin). You can find these in the Daz essentials, under shader presets.
