Iray refusing to use my GPU

Okay, this is getting annoying to say the least, hour and half test renders are just taking too much time, so I decided to run some tests. I knew 4.8 wasn't using my GPU but I didn't know it was quite as bad as it is.
One naked G3 character in the scene, 3 spot lights and a lower rez hdri. Set hardware to cpu in both places, renders fine but takes forever, uses 100% of my CPU, Checkmark both CPU and my GeForce GTX 670 in the top and bottom, renders fine again but uses 100% of my CPU. Uncheckmark CPU but leave GPU checkmarked - render progress pops up for a split second and then closes, new render window pops up all black. Nothing. Okay, maybe my 2 gigs of GPU ram isn't enough to hold all the textures for one G3 character, I know 2 gigs isn't a ton. So I made a new scene, completely default, only loaded a primitive torus 32x16 divisions, no textures, no extra lights just the default sun/sky. Same exact result. So it won't even render an untextured primitive with my GPU. Checkmarking the optiX prime acceleration seems to make no difference.
Any ideas?

Have you ever had Iray rendering working with your GPU? If so, have you upgraded any hardwarre or software?
If not, you must be getting some kind of error message in the Log file - what is it saying? I used to get CPU-only until I updated the driver for my video card, but there was a warning message to that effect in the Log. I only have a 2GB GTX 660 but a sinlge figure definitely uses GPU-only for me. Occasionally I get a failure to use the GPU but that gets reported too in the Log (though I haven't yet worked out exactly what is going wrong on those occasions) but they are only rare occasions.
Maybe silly question, do you have the latest drivers for your card? If you doin't, or don't know, I suggest heading over to the NVIDIA driver page http://www.geforce.com/drivers
That's like the GPU version of reboot your computer, but holy crap it actually worked! Totally didn't expect it to work. Render time on the same scene went from an hour and a half to 9 minutes.
Thank you!! Making Iray mats will be so much less painful now.
