Backgrounds? or backdrops?

I see renders at Deviantart, and here where it looks like the model was rendered with a backdrop behind them. What is everyone using? Is there a prop in the store, are you using primitives for the ground and background?
I've been trying to figure this out and need some help identifying what others use for this.
Thanks in advance!

Both. Well actually three ways in Studio 4.8
First way is a HDRI map with both image and lighting. This is loaded via the Environment Map dropdown in Render Settings>Environment. When a proper (enough dynamic range for lighting) HDRI is used, your characters and props will throw appropriate shadows.
Second is an image background loaded via the Environment tab: Window>Panes>Environment>Type (dropdown). This loads just an image.
Thrid is a "backdrop" prop. This is typically some kind of studio prop that can take different textures. Often assoicated with a lighting kit.
The second method allows you to load an image of your own. I know it will take png, jpg, and tif. I haven't tried others. You can also access the Layered Image Editor, but I have not used that in this area.
Thank you for the detailed reply! I knew about a few of those.
The 'backdrop' prop, any reccomendations there? I've seen some renders where they can change the color of the backdrop and it really adds to the effect.
Again, thank you for the reply! :)
I found some via Renderosity! Time to render!
