Gallery Images not saved?

How exactly does the gallery work? I might not understand it. The only time I use it is to add images I want to include in a forum post. I click "post image", drop the image in, give it a page title and decsription, and copy the image url to include in my post. All that works fine. Later when I return to the Gallery, there are no images there at all! Do I have to create an album for them to be saved permanently? This seems like strange behavior. I've never needed any images beyond the post I first use it in so it's never been a huge problem, but maybe one day I will so I'd rather they are permanent.

Oh... just discovered the "Root Gallery" which has all my images. Why then when you go to the Gallery does it say "Empty Gallery" and "Looks like you don't have anything in your gallery"?

Images will not show up in the Gallery proper unless you hit the Publish button. And then, if you have not published any images before, your first few will be held in a mod queue before they show up.

Thanks. Does "mod queue" mean they are only there temporarily, to be flushed at some point?

The "mod queue" just means that the first few images that a user posts is manually checked by a real person - I guess just to make sure that they follow the posting rules. After you have two or three approved then I think they update your account and stuff will get published right away.

A few things to bear in mind here:

    1. The direct path to the image appears to change when it's published - atleast it did when I last tried to post a pre-published image.
    2. There is a bug with the publish button - when you push it the page will repeatedly "Publish" it over and over again. What I tend to do it click the publish button and then a second or two later open up my gallery and confirm that the image shows up and then close the tab that is publishing. Obviously that won't work if your images are going into the mod queue so hopefully you can just leave it "publishing" for a few seconds and then just close the tab - don't wait for it to give a completed message as it will never come :(

Thanks! But there's no need to publish unless I want the community to see my work right? For the time being anyway I just use it for examples relating to technical questions and forum post comments.

Ahh, probably, if the non-published images work in forum posts then you can continue doing that and not wory about "empty gallery" messages.

You do have to hit save even if you dont publish. Until you hit save,  the image is only placed in a temporary location from what I've read posted by others.

If you are just adding an image for the forums and it's not anything epic or meant to last, I'd just use Imgur... I started using it recently (apparently I registered years ago and forgot about it)...

If you just upload an image without posting it "To Community" (Don't add a description, it activates the "Post to community" button, so if you don't add a description it's not available and there is less chance of accidentally posting it to Imgur, and it being publicly viewable by anyone)... (if that matters to you)... ( it does to me)... So if you just upload it, it's only available to be seen by you or wherever you post the link to... like here in the forums.

To get a link, click on your profile icon and "images", you should see a collection of whatever images you uploaded... if you click on the image you want to link to here, it should open up with a collection of various types of links on the right side... if you are going to insert it using DAZ's image link menu, use the provided link titled "Direct Link" which should end with a dot and the image type.

I've been doing it from my iPad and it works well, if I remember correctly it more or less works the same from a computer, but with clicking not tapping.

I never made any albums over there or anything, but the images I uploaded for use on a video game forum have been at Imgur for about 10 years, so newer ones should probably be fairly stable... So that should probably last until they bury this software abomination and do a forum reboot... (like I seriously doubt in ten years these present forums will still be accessible without the Wayback Machine or something similar... then again who knows how long this dead horse will keep getting its butt whooped).

The last time DAZ had a problem with image uploading, it look well over a year (probably way more) for it to work for me again, so I gave up and would upload my images (for these forums) on a different 3D site... but about a year after DAZ finally fixed image upload, the other site changed software and all my images were lost, including one that was my only attempt to showcase my models, which was fairly unviewed anyway, so no big loss I suppose... Too bad I didn't use Imgur... but I probably thought it was all publicly viewable no matter what, so that's why I used the other site.

Some people dislike Imgur, but unless it's something very special you want to upload, I think it seems to serve it's purpose sufficiently without burdening DAZ's crappy servers any further.

I think it's great that PerrtiA identified a widow of opportunity when one can upload images, but on DAZ's part it's really terrible to have to use a "Window Of Opportunity" workaround like this is some bank heist caper... this is a frickin' 3D Art site that relies on people sharing information that often requires visual explanations, not to mention people needing to post images of a problem and or people looking for opinions on their work, and or wanting to share Works In Progress... it kinda (really) sucks that it garners such low priority here and the best we can hope for is to wait a couple of hours or wake up in the middle of the friggin' night to upload an image on the off chance it works... FFS.

And if it is a priority, it's not like we are being kept informed in any real or noticeable manner as to the progress.

    Cheers all.
