display material

Hello,

When I go into the material sectioon and I choose a material, nothing happens: I can't see the color change, it seems the new material isn't applied. Could you help me, please?

Thank you in advance!

  • What are you doing - applying a preset? What surfaces are selected? Which Draw Style is the Viewport using?

I am using the charm hair on genesis 2, and the hair are completly whithe, like is there isn't any material. When I go into the hair materials section, there are a lot of materials for the charm hair. I double click on one of them, but nothing happens...

You need to select the hair.

I tried, but I don't understand how to do it: I double clicked on the hair in the viewport, but it didn't work...

If you are having trouble selecting the hair in the viewport, you can select the hair in the Scene pane. Then double click on one of the hair color presets in the Content Library. The important thing is to have the hair selected first then apply the color preset.

Genesis 2 is very old. We are up to Genesis 9 now. Is there a reason you are using the old version, like maybe you own a lot of content for that version and nothing newer?

Select the hair (or one of its bones) in the Scene pane, or right-click on the hair in the Viewport and seelct it from the menu (but that dosn't always work, depending on how the hair is set up).

Though we did jump from 3 to 8.

Thank you very much! Could you tell me what is the Scene pane, please? Sorry, I started to use Daz five days ago, so I am not familiarized with its environnement yet...

For now, I use the Genesis that is compatible with the hair I want to use... I am trying to learn how to use Daz, so I don't know what is the "best" figure to use... Is it possible to use a hair for Genesis 2 or 3 on a Genesis 8 or 9 without to lose its shaping features? I saw some hair have shaping features, but when I try to use these hair on a different figure from one they had created for, the hair lose they shaping features...

  • The Scene pane is generally open, but if not it is avaialble through Window>Panes(Tabs)>Scene.

Generally most hair can be positioned on the figure's head, using the Translate tool and maybe some scale and rotate, then parented to the head - that will keep all of the original rigging for things like tails, but it won't automatically pick up morphs applied to the figure nor will it adjust bones that do match the figure to match the figue's pose (e.g. hair that hangs down may normally be set to pose like the chest bones).
