How do I get character's skin textures color to match another character?

As you know, there are some game characters that have very beautiful face textures, but the makers didn't focus on the details of the rest of the body of these characters

So I want to apply the skin textures of those characters with HD details to another character, but the color of the textures of their skin is different.

What can I do to make their skin colors match each other?

Do I need to put two textures into photoshop to edit it? Or can I just adjust the colors through the daz? If so, what options should I change?

  • You could try adjusting the colours for the affected properties in the Surfaces pane (probably Base colour) - the colour and the texture are multiplied together, so depending on the shift needed that might or might not help. Another option inside DS is to open the texture in the Layered Image Editor (in the fiel selection menu for the proerpty in the Surfaces pane) where you can add a colour overlay with a wider rnage of belnding modes available. Either of those would avoid the need for additional copies of the texture files, though they would potentially be fiddlier than using an image editor like Photoshop.

You dont need to go to photoshop. Can usually tweak things a little in Daz itself. Exact settings can depend on which shader you are using.  Very briefly, under Surfaces tab some settings you can change are:

    1. Base Color texture map (can change gamma or edit image in LIE)
    2. Base Color value (can turn off the limits of the parameter to go brighter than 1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
    3. Translucency Weight (reducing this slightly can brighten skin, but dont go too low, should be above 0.8)
    4. Translucency Color texture map  (can change gamma or edit image in LIE)
    5. Transluceny Color value (can turn off the limits of the parameter to go brighter than 1.0, 1.0, 1.0)

2,3, and 5 are probably the easiest to do since you can visualize it in iray preview and permits you to tweak with fine control.  But technically may not be the most appropriate way to do this.  If you turn off limits and go above 1.0, 1.0, 1.0 you can probably end up blowing out the color details on the maps as hard to really see what it does to the map.

I think 2 is convenient. Most of the characters have either too dark or too yellow skin color, so just brightening the skin a little bit is enough. Translucency Weight is a bit complicated for me. Do I need to place a texture here? (I saw many characters placing a texture named "sss" or basic texture in Translucency Weight.) And when I increase the value a little bit, the details of the texture start to disappear and become a single color.

    You mean like this,add a color layer,right?

but it became all blank when I add it , which blend mode should I choice?

If you want to lighten it, try to set blend mode to lighten and lower the oppacity.

Personally I would suggest go for color matching in Photoshop... It'll be cumbersome to tweak texture maps from different characters with LIE etc. to make them aligned in terms of color, tone..., you have to set values, accept, preview, again and again... Besides, if you use different maps from different sources, you need to make them seamless across the material zones... fix the maps or hide the seam, etc.

or Screen, then adjust the colour - black would leave everything unchanged, white would make the whole image white, shades of grey would lighten to differing degrees. Using a non-grey would lighten in proportion to the strength of the RGB values, which allows for adjusting the tint and tone at once. The modes are the same aas in Photoshop, so to an extent you will need to understand at least some of them whatever tool you use.

Assuming you're using Iray, my 1-Click PBRSkin product would help you -  whilst the titular feature is conversion to the PBRSkin shader introduced with Genesis 8.1, there are other utility scripts including gamma adjustment and translucency color adjustment that makes it much easier to change these settings and preview with Iray active in viewport.

Also released today is Universal Gamma Adjuster which can be used on anything to adjust gamma and even invert textures!
