Bizarre Geometry Grouping

I do a lot of work with the geometry editor when kitbashing outfits, but I'm having trouble with clothing from a specific vendor. They make full-body outfits, and none of the groups are set up logically. Using the geometry editor to select a group of faces usually only grabs a few of the ones I want, and it selects scattered faces across the rest of the outfit. Even the surface groups behave this way. I've encountered this on a few pieces before, but finding some way to kitbash parts of these is the only way I can use them on custom characters. If anyone is familiar with this issue and can explain why it happens, it would be a huge help!

Set the resolution to base and see if that helps with the selection :)

Pretty sure I can guess the vendor. If so, you'll find additional advice and experiments with kit-bashing their work in previous Forum entries (just search for the vendor name).

Not 100% sure and it seems you're not willing to name which one.... but I experienced some pieces from Rendo long time ago with similar issue.. You may try - : with Geometry Editor, Select All polygons first, Flip Normal, Clear Selection, then proceed with what you want to select, see if that works. But pls also check the render result....

  • For some reason if you have subdivision on (high resolution) it does this. Turn the mesh down to Base as Mada said and that might clear it up. This is often DS being crazy, and not the vendor. lol    I've seen this on my own items and I know for certain I didnt make them that way

Have nothing to test... but what's the root reason of such an issue?

Setting it to base worked, thank you so much!! (This is actually why I didn't want to name the vendor/product--if it was something I'd missed or screwed up, I didn't want it to come up in searches for their name.)
