DS 4.8.0.59 Crashing on Nvidia Iray renders

Lately, when I attempt to do an Nvidia Iray render, DS shuts down.  I've sent a zip file to bug reports, but this is an ongoing issue.  It happened with a product I bought here in August too (i13 Daydream).  I was told "This is a known issue and we are in the process of fixing it. I apologize for the inconvenience. We will let you know once the issue is resolved."  Never heard back so assume it's not resolved.   Well since then, we got the 4.8.0.59 UD to DS and it's still happening.

Yesterday and today, I loaded V4, a complete outfit, applied the iray materials to the outfit, added iray lighting, clicked render, the render window opened, then I got the little popup box with the scrolling green line of death that said DS needed to close.  V4 shouldn't cause DS to crash, and neither should an outfit with iray mats applied to it.

My computer:
Win8.1 64 bit
i7-4770 3.4GHz
32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (192 bit) version 353.82

Very frustrating since I have previously been able to render iray like nobody's business, but now it's acting wonky.  Need some advice please.

Whilst it could very well be Daz or IRAY related, presuming the symptom is the problem can make the problem hard to track down. The symptom is crashing when rendering with IRAY.

My first question is: what has changed?

Something has if it used to work.

So, what's changed in Daz, and what has your OS done (Windows update for example)?

Have you changed hardware? Or hardware settings? Has NVidia been allowed to overclock the card when it wasn't previously?

Do you have an old scene that used to work? If so, load it up and render it. Before you do clear or save the log elsewhere, then when you try it out you know it relates to the current scene.

Then do something you know is bad, compare logs, they might give some clues. This is presuming it is Daz update related and not Windows.

Can you render with 3Delight? That still doesn't prove IRAY is the isue. :)

So although, I'm tempted to say it's an IRAY issue, I'm open-minded about it.

I heard back from tech support and what they discovered is that I had checked both the Nvidia box and the CPU box in the Advanced tab of the Render Settings.  I guess it must cause a conflict with iray.  But after I unchecked CPU and only had Nvidia checked, I was able to keep rendering.  So perhaps I'll try rendering the i3Daydream product again too and see if making this change lets me render that as well.

So I don't remember checking both boxes, but I must have done it without thinking...frown duh.

Thanks for the troubleshooting advice though. Like your process.

    Glad it's fixed.

I can check both boxes, and it renders without crashing; soooooo, it is possible you've fixed the symptom, not the problem. :)

Well, didn't think of it that way, but yes, that could be.....hmmm....indecision  Hopefully it killed the disease and not just the symptom of something else.

Tracking down problems is always fun (yeh sure), so just save a log file of it working now, then you have something to compare it to. If it turns out to be intermittent, then those are the worst to find, but as it's working just get on with stuff, worrying needlessly is not productive.

Sorry if I've made that happen. sad

I'm usually a pretty good detective and can problem solve, but not with things like this, LOL.  Gimme a pz2, pp2, or obj that's acting wonky and I can figure it out.  Just can't figure out how to solve this type of issue.

Saving the log file intermittently isn't a big deal.  I can do that.  It's not a bad idea so I have a record.  Thx.

    Cheers wink
