    Interesting experiment! I haven't gotten back to Infinito and haven't a clue.

    Well, by sheer accident, I learned how to flatten the D-formed terrain. I was trying to see if you could copy and paste a node weight map from one d-former to another when I accidently merged a copy on top of itself. Lo and behold the terrain had a flat top! I can't change it's position but if I do a repeat merge I can make the flat area expand further.

    Here's a render with the flattened terrain next to the original d-formed terrain (that was shown in my previous post). You can see how the top is now flat while the sides show similar bumps and crannies.

    Here's a demo where multiple copies of the same weight map were merged onto the front terrain. What you see is the flat area has expanded compared to the one-time flattened terrain in the back.

    Here's a test render with buildings added. Before buildings:

    With the original terrain on the left, the building doesn't mesh well (the steps and doors are mostly covered by hill) whereas on the flattened terrain it sits nicely.

    I used Infinito over the last week or so. The terrain in this picture was done in it.

    Very impressive! I wonder what Infinito would look like with the new snow product from today. I haven't used it yet.

    Here's two 3DL renders. I'll try out Iray later in the day. First image is the scene before DA Let it Snow was applied then second image is after. I used the Snow Shell preset, as the Snow Cap presen only covered the hills, not the valley, with snow. I then added the heavy snow shader to the shell.  For the building, the shell preset covered the sides as well as the roof, so I only applied the heavy snow shader to the roof and ramp surfaces. The sky is FirstBastion's skydome. 

    EDITED: I finished the Iray render. Much longer to render than 3DL but I like it much better, especially along the flat surface. On the other hand, the grass clumps show better snow in the 3DL render. I thought I might have forgotten to add the shell to the grass clumps but I tried a couple more renders and still got the green look. The sky is Iray Worlds Skydome.

    Thank you for this thread! I am glad I found it. Fishtales, how did you add the water if I may ask? I made a terrain with a lake but I am not sure how to add a water texture to the lake part of the scene as it will cover the whole area with water.

    The water is a cube with a water texture; sized to fit the space and moved to get the position right.

    Rich, I'm not sure which one I like better. You're right, each one has different appeal. The snow clumps do show up better on one that the other. Snow is hard to get right, to avoid the glare and whiteout. Thanks for showing the difference in 3DL and Iray.

    Has anyone else had a problem with Infinito after upgrading to DS 4.9?  I had it working in 4.8 and then finally upgraded to DS 4.9 not long ago and it's no longer registered.  So, I put the registration code that AM sent me in and it doesn't work.  I thought I'd ask if anyone had this problem before I bothered AM about a new registration code.  Maybe I'm missing something?

    It might happen that the Serial Number changes (usually that occurs with OS upgrades). In any case, you may get the new activation code here: http://www.gm-studio.net/IF_activation.aspx

    Thanks, AM! I hadn't even noticed that the serial number was different than before.  I input the new info and I have it working now!

    Did you get a serial number and enter it in the Installed Plugins section from the Help menu?

    I have both, actually. Heh.

    Although TerraDome3 has mostly absorbed my related interest; I haven't really found cause to play around with generating my own landscape. Although what's cool is that the funky shaders of TD3 can be applied to anything I siphon over from Bryce or Carrara.

    How is Infinito different than generating terrains in Vue or Bryce?  Or for that matter Cararra?  I have all of those.

    Vue then Carrara then Bryce

    Do not buy Infinito - not worth it

    Until you say that other solutions may be better, I have no problems with it. Advising users not to buy a product just because you are not capable of using it, is uneducated and offensive.

     

    I have not seen amy one that can use it to make a terrain as good as the others - that is my point

    sorry if that makes you sad .
