I am looking for a 3d generalist as a mentor/tutor (paid)
I am searching for a paid tutorship (for me to learn, I pay the tutor)... so I am not quite sure if this post is allowed here in this forum. Please bear with me if it is not allowed...
Hi guys... I learn 3D for 2 years now in my leisure time and I think I've already made some progress. Now I've quited my (unsatisfying) job and want to use the free time to focus on learning more about 3d. Therefore I am looking for an experienced 3d generalist who can mentor me on this journey. Going through YT videos, forums and discord servers to learn or to describe a problem and waiting for the answer - this way is very time consuming. So my idea is to find someone who has much more (professional) experience with all that and who I can directly answer my questions and who guides me somehow to accelerate the learning progress.
About me: I've worked as a lead webdeveloper for years now (so even Photoshop / Gimp is new to me  ) and I've worked with following tools: Blender (modelling / scultping basics, shader editor, little bit of animation, rendering with Cycles), Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer, now I use DazStudio very much (character creation, posing, scene creation, rendering). At the moment I am not sure which direction in 3d I want to go as I am still facing too many problems when I want to create one of my ideas. I am experimenting with adult gay scenes and therefore want to focus on clothing, character creation, compositing, posing, lighting, texturing and things like that but many images I like are environments or abstract 3d art which I would like to do as well... you see I am still searching for basically everything :innocent:
About the searched mentor: I am looking for a generalist with good experience with Blender, Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter and maybe DazStudio (last tool is not necessary). My idea is to meet once or twice a week online and discuss my questions but I am open on how to organize that. Please let me know how you would do that and what your prices are. I am looking forward to learning from you!

There are online platforms for what you want, that connect people that want to tutor online with people who want to learn, like Superprof.com
That would be your best bet to find someone I think. I'd recomment having Anydesk installed as it's a common tool to connect and share screens there.
Hadn't heard of that site.
I cannot recommend superprof - I've booked it because the description of a tutor was nice but then - after I've paid 60,- € to get the contact details of the tutor and talked to the person - I realized that he was not as experienced as the description suggested.
But please don't share here any portals like that anymore - I opened this thread to find a personal mentor for me. Please respect that.
Problem is, your experience is as much, if not more than the majority of users here already and the ones with more experience are usually PAs; I would suggest trying Artstation also since it will have more users that use other apps other tha Daz Studio
hm... ok, so no respect for my wish. This thread is a good example why I don't want to invest so much time in writing forum posts anymore I have written a clear and detailled description of my issue and until now the answers did not add something helpful - just assumptions that there are no tutors, tips like "look elsewhere" or just completely ignoring what I wrote in my post ("answers in forums are for free" - honestly... yes, I know, but this is not the point of this thread).
Please guys... my posting is clear: I just look for a tutor and I am willing to pay for a good one. So it's not necessary to explain what you think about this or if you personally think that there are better ways to learn 3D. If you don't know anyone who is doing something like this or you are not interested in tutoring just ignore this thread.
@Dissendior: Did you check if somebody sent you a private message? I didn't but i know from other threads, that people sometimes don't answer such questions publicly.
As mding noted, many times people message you privately on things like this. We discourage speaking of pricing etc in the open forums. That is not an appropriate topic. The people responding are merely trying to be helpful in the best way they know how.
You're actually looking for a 3D generalist, looking at your original post, and this is not necessarily the right forums for this. Most people mean vertex modeling when they say 3D generalist and while some do model, many here do not as they are working with ready made assets made by others (starting with the Published Artists in our Daz 3D store).
You may want to ask people to contact you privately or go to a site associated with the software you hope to use (such as Blender).
The OP is looking for something very specific so please keep the answers to what he's asking.
Dissendior,
As a realtor once told me, with all the accumulated wisdom of her many years dealing with newbie home buyers, you'll may have to kiss a few more frogs before you find a prince.
In your case the issue may not be the content of your OP but rather the place in the Daz Forum where you've posted your request. You mention that you learned 3D by means of Blender. Have you tried posting your request to the Blender subthread? Not only would you find folks who may be willing to tutor you, they are likely also to know where you're coming from, that is as a Blender user. Furthermore, you'll find people who've taken Daz assets and imported them into Blender -- via the official Blender Bridge or by means of Diffeomorphic -- for customization. That's something that you may be interested in down the line; it's worthwhile mingling with like minded folks. I myself embarked on my 3D journey about three years ago and found my footing among the Blender crowd.
Also, have you looked into SickleYield's channel? As a Daz PA, SickleYield's Daz-Blender tutorials are clear, concise and informative. I don't know if Daz is the right way to reach out to SickleYield, but she's certainly updating her Deviant Art page regularly.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
I'm not sure if this is quite what you are looking for, but take a look at CG Master Academy. They provide classes focused on digital art, 3D, and animation, and the classes are structured similarly to a college course. The teachers are all working or retired professionals in their fields. In my experience, the whole process of learning with them was excellent. I took their concept art and illustration courses a couple of years back to refamiliarize myself with digital art basics and earn the certifications for the classes. I was able to communicate with the other students, look at their homework pieces, and every bit of the work was graded and critiqued by the teachers in a personal video. The format was great, and it was all well organized and easy to navigate. They also offer mentorship paths for students who meet the prerequisites. I found both the customer support staff and the teachers very easy to get in touch with and ask questions of. Perhaps something like this might help you as you decide what direction you want to take with your 3D art. At the very least, if you look through the classes and different paths of study, it might help you get an idea of what skills to focus on and how to organize/plan a path for yourself.
