I need typical spaceship parts ... I have a lot of cool spaceships, but all of them are pre-styled. I need to turn some sea creatures into spaceships based on the author's sketches. For example, I need to turn a hammerhead shark into a spacecraft with engines, weaponry, bridge, cargo hold, etc. So I'm thinking, If I take a shark and parent the desired parts and section to the base form and mesh-grab the root form of the shark to make it less realistic, then shade everything to match ... What do y'all think? Is there a ship-parts set out there?

You might be able to kitbash some stuff off this odd looking model, which is a sea creature (a lobster), turned into a battleship:

that's cool ... adding that to my wishlist for future projects, but I'm looking for futuristic spaceship parts that are either removable or already separate. But I guess, in a pinch, I could make parts by deleting mesh I don't want and then re-saving the desired leftovers as separate obj's ... but a PITA if there is already something floating around out there.
How about these:

These might be more what you are after. Lots of small pieces, in some of the promos the PA shows how they can create a spaceship.

They are all 80% off at the moment
Thanks :) Y'all just saved me a ton of work!
love the idea again reminds me of warhammer, the tyrannid race are like seen the concept in a few movies/shows/comics/games and I was thinking of this too for a few future projects speaking of which there's a really cool battleship here like that KuJ Battleship

Low in detail and probably not what you're looking for, but they might make decent background ships; they might work for starting points for other ships as well:

Here is another thing you might experiment with. I have kitbashed together a number of ships together before, simply by using Cutout on 90% of the model.
For example, I have used Starship R04, removed the entire "Millenium Falcon" body, and added the Cockpit and engines to a whole other ship.
I have also used Interplanetary Spaceship, and added the wings from This Set to come out of those engines.
Its all a matter of resizing, streching, etc. Some models work better than others. It all depends on how the modeler split stuff up. Do you might be able to get started with some pieces from one of the ships you have.
I would also like to give my Stamp on the Greeble sets. All 3 of those are MUST haves for Kitbashing.
EDIT: Actually relooking at those last two. I did that a bit different than I remembered. I removed the engines and mini wings from Interplanetary, and tacked the Engines and Wings from the 2nd Directly to the body of Interplanetary.
That's a new use of the word 'Greeble' to me. I've only ever heard of it in relation to cats getting the zoomies.

Richard
Stonemason also made some Greebles.
And if you do a wikipedia search, there is some information how greebles are linked to kitbashing.
Yeah it predates 3D Computer Models. Some sources place it with SFX team of the original Star Wars in 1977 for the tiny bits they would stick on the models of the Falcon and the Stardestroyer, etc. Mostly they used parts from various military model kits
Probably some of best spaceship construction sets were made by Simon-3D over at Renderosity. He has eight large sets.
Yeah, I've seen "greebles" uses as a term for adding small details to sci-fi stuff since at least the 70s. Never heard of overactive-cat-actions as a meaning before.
Ditto. I will note that before I heard/read "greeblies", the popular tern was "nurnies" around 1977 or '78 in the early issues of StarLog. But a year or 2 later I noticed the word "greeblies" and I found that to more easily roll off my tongue. Until this thread, I never associated it with feline manic activity.
Agreed, but be warned, the late artist's peview images for them are horrible and don't do them justice. I have no idea as so many of his other products have excellent preview images, but for some reason most of the previews for these sets all look "mushy" to me, nothing like what you'll render yourself.

Lots of those previews are generated in old versions of Poser. Plenty of Rendo models made for Poser look far better when converted to iray. Or simply when used in Daz.
