Looking for custom HDRI Skydome creation tutorial
My search-foo may be off, but I am looking to make some custom skydome HDRIs (just the sky, no ground) for exoplanetary renders. I know there are a few in the shop, but none of these give me the vibe I am looking for.
Additionally, learning how to would allow me to make variations, with moons in different places (moons rarely sit in trojan positions, so they'll move), etc.
I have not been able to find any useful tutorials on making these, though, so if someone can help me out? I know Daz Studio, but I am happy to use any other tool, as long as it is affordable...
(I mean, Poser is great, but just the base won't suffice, and then, for that money, I could probably just have someone make them for me instead.)

Just for background or lighting too? They are both different things. You can make a spherical background straight from Daz Studio using the Spherical Camera. Select a Camera in the scene. Under Camera, Lens, Lens Distortion select Spherical.
Getting light too is difficult. You can try making 4 or 5 renders at different F/Stops under Tone Mapping, save them as TIFFs and put them together in a graphics program that can use 32 bit images. You really require 96 bit images but then you are looking at specialist tools or Bryce which can make them.
Lighting would be great, but I can put in lights if necessary... But since I only want the skydome (no ground) and multiple celestial bodies, I have no idea where to even get started... Creating HDRIs in DS I can do (I have the V3D HDR Master Bundle, so that helps with HDRs and EXRs), but adding the celestial bodies in a blue sky...
I do have Bryce as well, so if you know of a tutorial for making sky-only skydomes in there, I'd be very happy to have a look!
If you have Bryce 7.1, it comes with 4 tutorials how to create an HDRI. Look under Contents\Tutorials\Horo Wernli\. There are 4 different methods.
Thanks, I'll have a look there!
Hello @Horo I thought you might pop in :) I haven't done anything in Bryce for a long while, been too caught up in Studio :)
Hello Fishtales, I haven't seen you lately at the Bryce forum. Use whatever tool that that works best for you.
When I could see I wasn't using Bryce I hid the forum but I have reactivated it so I may drop in again sometime :)
Edit
I just noticed it didn't Unhide it but is coming up with an error page that it can't process the request at the moment try again later. There must be something wrong server side.
Where do I find Contents\Tutorials\Horo Wernli\ ? I can't find it on my PC...
He meant you to go to his Website :)

have you looked at this one https://www.daz3d.com/how-to-create-your-own-iray-hdri-s
I looked at it, but would prefer to start with a free option for tutorials.
The biggest challenge I now have is placing the celestial bodies and day or night sky before I can even start rendering an HDRI Skydome...
Try NASA for sky HDRI.

Maybe this helps for Bryce. This has been a while ago, but should work still

I'll have a look at all of these soon™, once I can make some time for it again...
Thanks so far, everyone!
