Are your character at world origin?

If not, try to switch Instance Optimization to Memory or Speed.

Will that stop the shells from turning figure white? Also where can i find this

My assumption is that it is lack of precision makes your shells collide. And that can happen if your character is too long from world origin. Changing Instance Optimization will make Iray recalculate origin, and thereby increase precision.

Instance Optimization is in render settings > Optimization.

Else show an image of what you are seeing.

There must be multiple geografts and goeshell(s) on your figure... It'll be a little complex.... Let's say an example: the figure has a geograft of breast (A), a geograft of genitalia (B) and its geoshell (C). Noted that the face group Visibility of (A) on (C) is 'Off' as default.

When you activate Mesh Grabber, Geometry Editor, Node Weight Brush, etc, as these tools manipulcate geometries, the geografts will be floating and the face groups Visibility of (A) and (B) on (C) will be temporarily removed. After you switch back to Universal / Transformation / Rotation tools, the Visibility of (A) and (B) on (C) will be reset to 'On'. Now you'll see that 'white surface' on (A)

You can manually set the (A)'s Visibility to 'Off' on (C) but you have to do so each time you use Mesh Grabber, etc. The better way is -: Select (C) in Scene pane, go to Surfaces pane, select the surface(s) of (A), filter 'Opacity', set its value to 0, and lock it.
