Can I Erase this 900GB of DAZ Files?

Without me knowing, 900GB of Daz files have accumulated on my computer's internal hard drive - in a folder called DAZ 3D - which contains one folder called InstallManager - which contains 3 folders - DOWNLADS 15,275 items, FILTERS 8 items, and MANIFESTFILES 9,195 items.

All my DAZ3D content is installed to an external hard drive, from which it's accessed when using DAZ Studio.

Can I erase the 900GB of InstallManager files that are on my computer internal hard drive?  Or is there any reason to keep it?  If so - what?

Downloads are the product zip files so you can delete those if, and only if, you are happy to re-download any products that you want to uninstall and then want to reinstall. But you should not remove the manifest files or DIM will not know what you have installed and so will put every single product you have purchased back in the "ready to download" tab.

Also, within DIM there is a option that says whether to keep the zip files after you install which you can change so that DIM won't fill the downloads back up again the next time you install things.

I noticed in the Install Manager, there are still 1683 products that are READY TO INSTALL.  Do I assume these files are really not installed, and install them?  Why would they end up here instead of the INSTALLED pane?

  • Any products in there would mean that DIM has seen that you have bought them and the install zips exist the in downloaded files folder but there was no corresponding manifest file. So, the worst case there is you re-install products that are already installed and so would theoretically do nothing other than creating a new manifest file that was previously missing.

I am of cource assuming that you do not log into your account Daz Studio as then there is Daz Connect at play to cause more havok.

I moved DIM and its files away from my C: drive for this reason. But on one computer, sometimes the handshaking is wonky and I have to closed DIM and reboot the computer after making sure the connections to the external harddrive is firm. That normally fixes the issue of installed files needing to be 're-installed'.

  • I just tick the "delete package after installing" box on the bottom of the DIM Interface. I still see the list of items in my product library and can install if/when I need them for a particular project. This way my DAZ library on the PC is WAY less cluttered. Also DAZ 3D folder mentioned by the OP is way less bloated. It only takes a few seconds to downlod and install what I need then remove it once the project is finished.

Because I'm obsessive compulsive about backups, I also manually download my purchases and keep the ZIPs on my external HD- "just in case".
