Legacy?

I have been wondering something for some time now and I am hoping someone can explain it.

When it comes to DAZ products, what is the meaning of the term legacy?

Some products have two downloadables - one of which is a Legacy version.

What is the difference?

  • Legacy tends to be for use with D/S3.

Thanks Catherine. But, what is D/S3? DAZ Studio version 3?

Yes, they mean DAZ Studio 3.

Legacy files are actually for DS3 or DS4 before 4.5, which can't use .duf format.
Daz introduced the .duf format in DS 4.5, before that DS files were provided in other formats (.daz for scenes, .dsa or .dsb for presets, and so on).
For a while after DS 4.5 release, product files were provided in both formats since a lot of DS users had not moved to 4.5 yet and could not use .duf files. The legacy files for those products are still available.

Thanks for the great explaination Leana! You're a peach! ;-)

So, since I am using the most current version of DS, I don't need to install the Legacy version of this product I just purchased.

    Thanks again! laugh

No, back then textures were a separate product, I think it was A3/H3 and the Gen 3 kids that were the first ones to come with textures.
