setting a scene with Jungle Ruins Redux

How can I get some light into a Jungle Ruins Redux scene while setting figures in the scene - there is only light  when it's rendered?

The "Preview Lights" option for the viewport is probably set. CTRL-L to toggle, or right-click on the Viewport tab. That gives you a pseudo-headlamp to see what's going on in the scene.
