Clothing tutorials?

Looking to make a piece of clothing for males, that doesn't seem to exist yet, surprisingly. (Or maybe not surprising, considering the low sales of mens' clothing.) In any case I'd like to start learning to make clothing. Preferably dforce, but the item I want to make would probably be best as a combination between dforce and standard form fitting. Are there any recommended tutorials for a beginner?

I've never modeled anything at all. I don't own any of the expensive stuff like Marvelous Designer or anything, so I would need to be able to make it in Blender or Hexagon (not even sure if clothing can be made in that). I think I saw a free tutorial for making clothing in geoshells, but I need something with actual geometry. Its not a skintight item.

I wish Daz had a separate forum just for tutorials. Unless its here and I've just never seen it, the search function is horrible.

for converting clothing model to daz clothing (either dforce or conforming), then esha's tutorials from daz store may be helpful.  Additionally, mada's tutorials and posts (albeit disparately located) may be helpful.

for modelling clothing, you can do that in Blender, and can do cloth simulation too in Blender (like Marvelous Designer but not as good/easy). Doubtless, there are tutorials for clothing creation in Blender everywhere.

Marvelous Designer and CLO3D both have 1 month free trials, so that is 2 months of Marvelous Designer free since CLO3D is basically just the same program as made by same company, most of the same features, and use the same file type (.zprj).  Are you really going to spend more than 2 months doing the project?  It only takes a few hours to learn the software.  Also, when you say it doesnt exist yet for Daz studio, it might already exist for marvelous designer... check artstation store.

In my view blender is fine for modelling clothes.

There is more work involved than in Marvelous Designer, as you actually has to model it.

Mada (PA here) has a youtube channel with different topics related to making clothes https://www.youtube.com/@MadadeLeeuw

I am not aware of any actual tutorials. Jay Verluis might have something - can't remember.

    Key elements:

    Model towards a base character, e.g. G8M or G9.

If intended for dForce, it must be welded, i.e. not seperate pieces of mesh.

SickleYield has a video on making clothes from scratch to finished product. They used blender and Daz only, so you don't need anything else. I would also suggest using Mada's tutorials, they go further indepth to make sure clothes fit properly.

Thanks all for the suggestions, and yes it looks like Mada and SickleYield have enough tutorial content to keep me busy for a while.

Expertise at rigging/converting clothing models for daz studio is not the same as expertise at modelling clothes.  I would use sickleyield and mada for their expertise area, but look elsewhere for modelling tutorials.  As i said, there are probably a large number of blender specific tutorials on clothing creation, probably much broader in scope than anything sickleyield and mada will make.

As per lilweep's suggestion, there is a Blender forum here so you can ask your questions about making clothes.

For whichever modeling program you decide to go with, it will take some time to learn some of what all these programs can do. [i.e. be patient with yourself, there's a learning curve]

    https://www.daz3d.com/catalogsearch/result?q=tutorials

    https://www.daz3d.com/esha   She has several tutorials.

    https://www.daz3d.com/submerged-inside-hexagon-and-daz-studio--bundle

Also check over on YouTube, Daz3D plus several of the PAs have tutorials covering some aspect of creating things for Daz Studio.

Plus Sickleyield has some tutorials in the store including one [at least] for Blender.

    Mada has a clothing thread for Genesis 9.  {apparently this is the 'other' Daz3D forum so if it says you're signed out don't worry about it. Maybe I'll find the link for it in this forum. I have no idea why Daz3D is keeping 2 forums.}

Over at ArtStation one can find lots of clothing mesh -- SOME [not all] of it is modeled to one of the Genesis figures. Most of these were made in M.D. - not necessarily by people that know what the requirements for use in Daz Studio are. Most if not all of these clothing items will require a lot of reworking to join seams, remove unwanted mesh, redo the uvmaps, reset the shading domains, etc. However for the price one can easily get a collection of mesh starters to last a year :-)  For learning purposes, I would recommend starting with "free" samples.

The images for my next tutorial are in the editing basket atm. In it a real mesh skirt is the type of clothing being made. The goal is not so much that everybody make a skirt; but rather how to do certain actions to make the mesh and then the clothing.

Thank you! I had wondered where that thread had gone. And you are right, I had to log into it even though I was logged into this one now.
