OT RIP Matthew Perry!

Wow, I'm in shock. I loved Matthew Perry on "Friends" and in various other shows and appearances. Just got a notification from Variety, didn't say how he died yet. I met him once at a club here in L.A. He looked bored, very "been there, done that' sitting in bottle service, then got up, didn't look happy. I went up to him and said "Could this BE any louder?", using the inflection of a  middle of a sentence verb emphasis like his character on Friends. He just looked at me with a lack of comprehension. Probably high on something. He was not interested in talking to me or anyone else for that matter. So sad. He was really funny on camera. Not so much in real life. He was 54. crying

  • Damn that sucks. He was not that old, but according to CNN he drowned in his own hot tub.

What a sad news.  May his spirit rest in peace...

He said something to the effect that he has no memory of his time on Friends. A very troubled man who wasn't able to conquer his demons.

One of my fav movies is Fools Rush In with him and Salma Hayek. Now I will always see it differently now that he is gone. RIP

I knew he had a drug addiction but I didn't realize the abdominal damage, yikes!

RIP man, I was just humming the Friends theme song earlier in the day before I heard the news. :(

He was on record as saying he was tired of every day being referred to as the character, and would often brush off or ignore people who opened a conversation in that kind of way.

I know some people embrace the memes around them, but I can't say I would blame anyone for getting weary (as long as they don't handle it by shouting at people); every "hey, say the thing, it'll be funny!" moment to a fan is something that they've probably heard a thousand times already.

EDIT: Thinking about it, it probably varies a lot depending on how much creative input someone had in what their meme is; you'll probably be less enthusiastic about being asked to reciting a line someone else wrote over and over.

He was doing so well with her recovery journey only to drown in his own hot tub.  This one really hit me hard as I really loved his work.  I love that he finally took the bull by the horns and got sober and off the drugs and was making his way around the talk show circuit to promote, iirc, his book and his journey only to have this happen.  Rest in Peace sir.

I remember hearing a story about how Carl Weathers was once told he could significantly enhance his career by getting his name legally changed to Apollo Creed. He opted not to do it. I don't know... I think I would really like having a character I play that was so popular, people called me that name more than my own. But maybe that gets old after thirty years or so. Only Frasier and Carlton really know.

Carl Weathers will always be Dillon to me.
