4.22 nightmare

so, as Daz brought 4.22 with no option to roll back to a lower version, all of my work is now in the toilet.
Satruday I spent all day migrating the DB only now to have 4.22 screw the entire DB up.
If anyone knows how to roll back this software to save time please advise.
I am close to just getting a refund for all the asset and be done with this nightmare

Oddly when I updated, it created a new file. As in, new icon on the desk top and everything.

My issue, its 4.22 not showing thumbnails...and I am about to try it now to render a scene.....
Maybe you installed the beta and not the latest general release? If it was it would be normal to have it installed alongside your 4.21 and not sharing the content directories settings.
that is what I thought too, I was surprised to see a new icon on the desk top.
I just tried directing it to the library folder and now....it wont load anything, no thumbnails at all....I am already getting a headache....

So while it did create a new icon for the new 4.22....IT WIPED THE ENTIRE CLOUD FOLDER OF CONTENT
All gone!
That was why it wasnt showing any thumbnails and saying "content could not be found"
I am going to have install everything again...my files...my custom morphs.....WHAT THE HECK DAZ????
Why did you need to migrate the database? Unless your content paths had been changed (DS wouldn't change them for you) then your content and database would not have been touched, unless some other issue coincidentally happened. Are your files still on disc? Can you see them in the Content Library pane under Daz Studio Formats?
Thiss ounds very like a separate isntall, whether beta or in soem other way, with separate content directories - which don't match the ones you actually use in the previous version. Or for content installed through Connect, it could be a different database location.
Once a new version is released older ones are not available for download anymore. Daz support may have a copy, but even that is not guaranteed.
What is black? Please post a screenshot as that sounds very strange. This may be one of the rare cases in which uninstalling and reinstalling helps (but make sure Daz Studio is closed before doing so, not still running in the background).
If you have a version that shows content and oen that doesn't you can run http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/save_mapped_paths/start in the one that does have content. This will create a new script, which you run in the version that doesn't have content to add the same content directories to that.
I used the DazCentral install.
The paths are correct, just all content is gone.
I double checked via the preference tab(to make sure the paths were reading correct) then I manually went to the folders and all content is gone.
The files are not on disc or the files are not in Daz Studio Formats or the files are not in Categories/Products/Smart Content?
It looked like the folder just wiped. Gone. Nothing.
The manual stuff installed on the C drive was there. All the stuff in the "Categories/Products/Smart Content?" folder for the smart install, gone. Every folder, every file. I went to try and "restore previous version" on the folder option but it didnt allow it.
I am in the process of trying to reinstall everything now.
I havent even been able to test if the new DS works! Im just trying to get my library back now
But the categories are not files, theya re metadata pointing to files - if the files are still on disc then you can reimport the metadata. In any event, it would be a really good idea to post screenshots of your content directories and of the installed file locations - it is easy to miss issues, and fidning and fixing those would be a lot less painful than reinstalling all the content.
I found that when I updated, it had changed the directory for Daz Connect. Changing it back fixed it.
What was the old path? Mine is non-default and I have not had this iissue.
Mine was d:/daz connect and it created a new d:/applications/64bit/daz studio/connect or something like that.
That looks like the default Daz Central path - did you use that to install?
Ok, when I went to dazcentral and did the download for 4.22 it did its thing. I was shocked to see a whole new icon on the desk top. So, I had the 4.21 and the 4.22. (No biggy)
I went happily to the 4.22 and was eager to see what "death" (for g9) would look like and tried to add her to scene. A window popped up with the file extension and "Not found". Ok, so go to preference(as I thought it may be an incorrect path). But according the to the content tab, it was correct. Thought, maybe I just better "add" it just in case. Did that. Closed, reopen. Tried again. Same thing. So I tried an item I know was in my library and had been used...same thing. "Not found".
Went to the thumb name and did the "browse to folder location"...nothing happened.
Tried it with another thumbnail...nothing happened.
So I went to the actual folder. Manually.
I know where it is. I have been in it to manually put files in when a thumbnail doesnt show.
To find...and empty folder.
So the folder location(which hasnt changed in a year) it was empty. Nothing was in it.(right now it is showing some as its all reinstalling).
I can no longer show screen shots as I am now trying....TRYING to reinstall. The reason I am saying that is because its now been over 24 hours and I am at 38%(been showing 38% for most of the night). It has slowed down to a snail crawl. (I have checked my net speed. Its fine. I have made sure to turn off anything that may bleed my speed. But its ridiculously slow right now)
It is downloading, but at such a slow rate its....just I have no idea how I am going to get all of the items to install by the weekend.
(been keeping an eye on the left lower corner which tells me what is downloading, so I know it is, just...so painfully slow)
Please post screenshots of the actual content directory settings and the actual location, showing the path, of some of the not-found content - it is very easy to miss an issue, a fresh pair of eyes may help.
My only issue is with thumbnails. Even with Preferences set to replace thumbnail images, they no longer overwrite as they did in 4.21. An inconvenience for sure!

well....today. November 5th, at 23:15 I FINALLY have my content back installed and then updated.
I THEN had to go back in (after trying to open an older WIP) and redirect/refind everything again.
I still have issues with thumbnails.
(havent even TRIED to render ANYTHING)
Some content is not installing via the smart content tab, will need to manual it.
It has taken me this long...to get things back to working order. At least I think I have, havent even tried rendering.
Never mind the projects I had to either stall or give money back on...due to not being able to meet the time agree'ed.
And then(so small but such a peeve) I still see, that the libraries...you cant filter "by purchase date"
You can make VDB files with emissive...but cant fix thumbnails or "filter by purchase date",....
Maybe you can help with this(wish I had seen this post before resintalling everything but I defeated the beast!)
So I decided to try and render...started to build a scene, seemed all good. 1-STILL cant spot render.(I watched a video on maximizing NVIDIA settings for DS and followed that again..which led me to....) 2-I went to the NVIDIA control panel, looked for the NEW Dazstudio.exe. It should have had the recent install date. Except it was still showing in the panel as the old one. SO I went to "Add" and went to go find the NEW 4.22 file. To find....I have 3 DazStudio.Exe!
There are TWO for the 4.21 with the 2022 year install date marked(I swear no idea how this has happened. I used Dazcentral to install both versions). I then have another one, Which is the new version. (all 3 different paths)
I am sure it is because it is 5:16am for me, and I have been fighting the wee beasty that DazStudio seems to have become, but seriously, I have never had an "update" make such a pigs ear of things.(sorry if that is harsh)
I cant tell if there is a conflict because of multiple application files. I am actually hesitant to delete the 4.21 in case 4.22 keeps being a nightmare.
I cant stress enough, I have used dazcentral to install the program.
And certain thumbnail...just not working still
No way... duf file was saved and normally nobody would intentionally set Read-only property on png files in a Scene folder...
Some people do if they have created a custom thumbnail, to guard against its being overwriten by the one generated by DS.
I never thought about setting my custom (iRay) thumbnails as read-only to protect them against the basic ones created by Daz. Does Daz raise an error if it can't create a new thumbnail ?
