OOT hair causing crashes in 4.22

I'm getting this crashing after upgrading to 4.22 and I've found that it's the OOT hair.  It'll do okay in viewport render with other assets but if i load an OOT hair then it instantly crashes with this in the error file:

DAZStudio.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\libs\iray\libiray.dll" at 0033:00000000B04EBBDB, mi_plugin_factory()+2658315 byte(s)

The OOT hair causes crashes even if it's the only object in the scene.  I have an RTX 3090.

Is there a way to revert back to 4.21?

Which hair set are you getting system hulk smashed by?

Mega Updo Hair, but I tried with other OOT hairs and they also crash.

And yes I do have the latest Nvidia drivers.

Eh, I just saw someone else's thread about removing the Transmitted Map.  That fixed it.  So...never mind I guess.

Hmmm, maybe it's an issue with the latest driver. On the latest beta, I tried a few OOT hairs and it rendered no errors. I have not upgraded my driver in a while, due to nvidia messin up something with vram usage. Version 531.79 seems to not crash, if that is indeed the reason it's working for me. The character I a workin on is not the best test subject lol. Here he is wearin updo 2, isn't he such a pretty paladin?

    Haha very stylish!

And yeah, hopefully this gets fixed soon, having to remember to remove trans maps from any scene with it is gonna get annoying fast.

  • I am having the same issue. I have a character with OOT Linda Ponytail Hair and when I load her in the scene and try to initiate Iray it crashes. When I delete her hair, it renders just fine. When I re-add her hair from scratch it crashes again.
I've got maybe 40 scenes with this girl in this hair. And if I can't use her I'm pretty much going to be SOL for an entire story series... How do they go about patching this? Is it a Daz thing? something with NVIDIA?

I"m not sure...it's super weird how it only happens with OOT hairs.  Even if you put some random image in the Trans map then it crashes.

Outoftouch has updated many, but not quite all, of the affected hairs. Actually, there is only one file that has been modified, and it is common to all Hairblending products from OOT. All you really need is to install at least one of the updated hairs and it will correct the problem for all OOT hairs that use Hairblending 2. Just don't install one later that hasn't been updated. The file in question is "\data\outoftouch\OOT Hairblending 2\OOT Hairblending 2 Hair\OOT Hairblending Hair.dsf", with a date from January, 2023.

Linda Ponytail Hair has been updated, so you need to get a fresh copy and install it.

OOT hair uses a custom shader which has caused problems with recent versions of Iray. Quite a few of their hair products were updated because of that, so check if you have the latest version installed.

I tested quite a few OOT's hair, found no crash issue, even with Transmitted Color mapped. Two shaders have been fixed by OOT in: data\outoftouch\OOT Hairblending 2\ -: Cap (MDL) and OOT Hairblending Hair (MDL). And make sure you have latest Studio driver as well.

If you have updated the products but the issue still sustains, press F2 in DS, clear DSON cache, reload the hair ! and try again.

I tried with Daz Studio 4.22.0.1, NVIDIA 546.01 studio driver, and one OOT hair which has transmitted color map applied and I don't get any crashes on 4090 RTX.

The issue is Transmitted Colour with a map applied, not any Transmitted Colour.

Yes, I am aware of that, the hair I tested had Transmitted Color with a map applied. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Thanks everyone.  Yeah I had updates disabled but I let that one OOT hair through and now it works fine!

So you blocked the updates in DIM or sth. ?

Hi. I had the same issue, used the tip here, and now it works fine. A good idea is to keep the "OOT Hairblending Hair.dsf" file somewhere and, if you install some unupdated hair that overwrites it, just copy it again in the data folder.
