Hello, the app is working with products containing a manifest file. If a thumbnail is not available because of the different store, can be easily added manually and the app will show it.
DAZ Shop products are currently recommended because packaged in a standard way and containing metadata for the Smart Content feature.
DSX Catalog is available on the Microsoft Store and certified by Microsoft. It's running in a sandbox and can't touch the system, so it's completely safe to install.
It would be nice to see DAZ Studio and DIM be also distributed via the Microsoft Store. I know recently with Blender 4.0 the Blender.org site came under DDoS attacks that made it difficult for some at the time to download Blender. Those that use the Blender package distributed via the Microsoft Store though didn't have that problem.
Keeping a copy of purchased content in form of .zip files is a best practise, you avoid to re-download it every time and you can have your own catalog. The Microsoft Store can help with the software download, but not for the content that's usually much bigger.
Yes, I didn't mean all that content. Just DIM & the other executables. & maybe the plugins.
Gosh I love it when Daz Central reincarnates again for a while and I can actually SEE what I've got.
Please ... change your mind, Daz and give it a permanent stay of execution.
I've always installed via DIM - but for ease of access to owned products Daz Central's visuals win hands down.
Or please implement a grid view of the items with large thumbnails. Daz Central had a nice and clean interfase.
We are told this is on the list (but no ETA).

butterflyfish Pretty sure it will be an extra view that we can choose. Even in DAZ Central it wasn't the default view. Fancy scrolling through 1000s of items with a grid-only view!
But once you run searches on your items (like "ruins" or "pirate"), search results are easier to look over in a grid view where you can actually see what the things look like...

On the Downloads and Ready to Install tabs, I really only want to see a list of products ready to download/install with their package size clearly visible
On the Installed tab I want to see as many products as possible with their installed size and package date clearly visible. (I do like the recent enhancement that shows an orange underscore on products with a newer version available)
What, when, where is this new enhanced DIM?
In my earlier das, I stubbornly insisted on installing my content manually. Then I got smart and started using DIM.
I've seen other install apps arrive, but continue to ignore them in favor of DIM.

I still don't get the fanatic attachment to DIM. I had to use it for a week or so and I am relieved to be able to go back to Daz Central for some unknown period of time during which it has returned from the dead.
DIM is better than manually installing stuff. I just recently bought a bunch of stuff at the other place and spent the better part of an evening carefully installing things manually. Yes, DIM is better than that, for sure, and would've seemed great at a time when that was the only alternative. And I'm grateful that after a week of installing stuff with DIM, it doesn't appear that there are any dire disasters with my happy, working Daz instance built entirely with Daz Central. But after using Daz Central for the entire time I've been using Daz (eg, since summer 2021), I find DIM to be clunky, with many steps, not obvious how to do what I'm there 99.9% of the time to do - install new stuff ... and only new stuff, not relics of old products that apparently had DS and PS installations, not 4.22, which I plan to upgrade to on my terms, when I'm ready. In Daz Central I just ensure that the products are sorted by Order Date - which they always are - and click Install. What happened, years and years ago, that freaked people out about Daz Central? Or is it partly a case of mistaken identity, thinking that we're attached to DazConnect (which truly is a giant nuisance)?
In my opinion there are two different needs.
1) Install new purchased content
2) Find an already purchased content
The first is easy to accomplish if the content is from the DAZ Shop. DIM here works great.
The second requires more time, proportional to the available content, and a tool may really help here. A printed a catalog with thumbnails (or a PDF) of the purchased content is the best solution I found, because I can use it "offline" and I can think new renders out of the available content. When I buy new contents, I just print new pages to add to my catalog. I think that DAZ should really think about developing something very close to DSX Catalog or directly buy the source code and make it an official tool.
DIM can also sort by Order Date, there's a Sort Order drop-down on each tab.
Mostly the current version, though the grid view is a feature yet to appear.
cool. that's all I've used for a long time. Now that I know how to get thumbnails into DIM, its even better. It would be good to figure out a way to know what products I've actually purchased though. Wading through them all is tedious, thumbnails or not, and its too much t install everything.
I've been a DAZ customer since before they were DAZ (were they called Zygote?!) DIM was my first installer, and it worked. I saw no need to use another installer.
I'm confused about how so many people put so much effort into cataloguiing their content If I want to know what I have, I just load DAZ Studio and look at the content. I don't need to print thumbnails etc.
In my opinion DIM exists to make things easier. I refuse to make things more complicated.
I read the reason for my attachment to DIM in your message: I started using it l o n g before Daz Central - and I've never used Daz Central.
I'm sure you like DC a Lot more because you're so used to it - got to grow to love how it works, etc.,
It's the same for me with DIM. I rely heavily on it and I don't need pictures in it to use it for what I use it for. It's my database manager/content keeper/installer. I love it!
I don't know how Daz Central worked, but I love how I can quickly locate a product and find everything that came with it. Amazing how many tutorials and such come with content. But I also use it to locate texture maps, additional product options and I also find it incredibly handy for moving my content from one directory to another via Uninstall/re-install. Fast and simple, though it doesn't load very fast - but that's okay with me :)
Anyways, I'm glad that Daz Central is back up for you. Maybe they changed their minds?
Hello Ron, the main issue with DAZ Studio is that looking at available content is not so easy.
If you have a 4K monitor for example thumbnails are very small because the app is not DPI aware.
Thumbnails in DIM are small too and you need to hover the mouse over each item.
This is not a problem if you have few content or if you know what to render or if you have very clear ideas. But if you are looking for inspiration and want to reuse what you already have, looking at what you have available in your catalog in a easy, clear way, is a good way to start.
From a commercial point of view the "master" catalog is the Daz Shop website, you can zoom with the browser and things are pretty organized there, so there is no need for anything else. But you will easily end to buy new stuff because tempted by cool new assets.
What do you mean by knowing what products you have purchased?
for example, i dont remember wht I've bought. I have to many to browse. I usually get ideas from seeing things, so going through page after page is tedious. It is possible , if you need a hat, to type hat into the filter in the library and get hats to pop up, but I dont know what I'm talking about. It just seems overall difficult to just find something, in DS, DIM, or in the account.
So this is about finding types of item? products and files should have tags, and there are categories in DS, but I agree that it can be quite ahrd to track things down even when you know you have several whatevers in various packages.

Try the various sorting functions in the Installed page. It's awesome! Sort alphabetically, by Order Date, By Install date... I love browsing my gear using DIM. I also use my Product Library at Daz a lot. That's also a fun way to review my purchases. About two or three times a year, I go to my Product Library in my account, sorted by date, and I start from the last page and work my way forward. Fun!
Doing that is a great reminder to me how great legacy Daz 3d products are. If I haven't used one in a while, I might pull it in and update it with some Iray shaders for fun and save it.
There are a couple dozen ways to filter your product not including custom filters you can do.
There are also different filters that produce large thumbnails inside the Daz store that may help you find some items that you own. One in particular to check off is called: Only show items owned.
