If you use DIM just copy the zips from the downloads folder, if you've been letting DIM erase them after installing you could temporarily move the ManifestFiles folder to a backup location, so that DIM will download everything again, then after you've backed everything up you can mve the ManifestFiles back.
If you want to permantly store to an external drive, just change the path in DIM. All my content goes to an external drive.
