Emission Parameters DS 4.9 Missing

It appears that in the Surfaces Tab/Emission, DS 4.9, many props (although not all) have lost all the parameters except for the colour.  The only way to add the missing parameters is to select the Emission surface and use the Daz Uber Emissive shader. I've checked some saved props that I've converted to Iray and in the majority of cases, apart from colour, there are no other parameters.  I double checked the same props in DS 4.8 and the parameters are all there.  I can't see any Rhyme nor reason for this but I do so hope it's a 'Glitch' because as much as the Daz Uber Emissive shader is ok, I mostly prefer to illuminate some surfaces manually

Is it possible you have selected the 'show used' option in the surfaces tab?  And no, I am not currently using the 4.9 beta, so that's a wild-ass guess ;)

if you change the color to anything other than black (RGB 0 0 0 ) it should activate the other options.

Depending on what "Luminance Unit" you choose you will get more options

  • Yes, that seems to be the way Iray surfaces parameters now work; there are several "base" parameters, whenever they're set to a non-zero value, they open up all the dependent parameters. It can get a bit complicated, but after a while the system begins to make sense.

    Eureka!...It is so....

The thing is...why doesn't anyone tell anybody...........................or is the whole point of DS Iray intended to be one big Game Console maze of discovery based on total guess work, intuition and a bit of 'let's poke that button to see what occurs'..................KerBoom!

I don't have a link to hand but I do recall this being discussed, and if you look in the change logs it is mentioned http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log_4_8_0_59 :

    4.8.0.15

    • Added 'dynamically hidden' state to DzProperty; temporary hidden state for display purposes, intentionally not saved

    • Updated property based panes/widgets/filters to support 'dynamically hidden' properties

    4.8.0.17

Extended dynamic property hiding to handle photometric light properties

    Hi Richard,

I don't think most people would look at a change log for a different version as 4.8.0.59 has all the surface parameters and the Change log pages seem somewhat convoluted when searching for some actual information.  They are compiled in a similar way to most software...'poke arouind, click this and that and something might happen'.  I dread to think how some of the software and Log writters would fair as Technical Authors...Instructions would most likely be aptly named as 'Destructions'.

No matter I usually work most things out

    Nil Desperandum
