Volumetric OpenVDB in DAZ Studio?

1) Does Iray support OpenVDB allready or are there any plans to add support in the near future?

OpenVDB is an Academy Award-winning open-source C++ library comprising a novel hierarchical data structure and a suite of tools for the efficient storage and manipulation of sparse volumetric data discretized on three-dimensional grids. It is developed and maintained by DreamWorks Animation for use in volumetric applications typically encountered in feature film production.

OpenVDB is a format to store volumetric data like fire, smoke, fluids etc.

A basic workflow is to run a volume simulation in a dedicated software or a plugin and then to export an OpenVDB file to the rendering application.

For DAZ Studio it would be interesting to have the following options:

- The ability to "just" render OpenVDB volumes created with 3rd party applications

- The ability to run "simple" OpenVDB simulations directly inside DAZ Studio as a native feature.

- The ability to run "advanced" OpenVDB simulations in a 3rd party plugin created for DAZ Studio.

At the moment it seems that only "high end" software applications have access to OpenVDB.

One of the most prominent software seems to be Houdini FX to create OpenVDB volumes.

Other applications seems to be supported with Houdini Engine plugins.

2 ) Do you know some affordable applications or plugins that can run "OpenVDB" simulations?

I just read in another forum post:

And yes, 3Delight has it.  Just getting access to it through Studio is not going to be easy..

Are there any plans to add OpenVDB support for 3Delight in DAZ Studio?

OpenVDB support was also added to OctaneRender 3.

Unfortunately without a way to actually load OpenVDB files in DAZ Studio the OctaneRender plugin for DAZ Studio cannot support that feature.

This means IF OpenVDB support would be added for 3Delight in DAZ Studio all OctaneRender plugin users could as well make use of the ability to load OpenVDB files.
