How in the world do i get the menus on the left back? ie all of the add items/figures into the sceen. I can seem to do much of anything now.

Do you mean the Content Library pane? Window>Panes(Tabs)>Content Library, then drag by the topbar to the left until you get a line of highlight colour to dock it (or just reload your layout - Window>Workspace>Select layout, or to restoe just the pane layout Window>Workspace>Customis and use the Import button at the bottom).
