CMS Issues

Hello,

I installed my DAZ Studio v4.22 on my desktop since I'd rather work on that. It keeps telling me that there is no PostregSQL connection. I've carefully looked at the cms directory and it seems to ber looking at the cms directory on my C drive. I'm not sure what else to do. I've verified the cms path in both Studio and my DAZ Install Manager. I've rebooted my desktop.After rebooting, I checked to make sure the paths remained correct and they seem to be.I'm at a loss.

Before I log a ticket for assistance, I figured asking here might provide a solution.

DAZ works find on my laptop where I have DAZ on external drives to proptect my laptop (on Drive Letter F. I've made sure that my directories on the desktp match the laptop exchanging all F references to C references.)

Thanks everyone.

    If DIM can talk to the CMS but Daz Studio cannot then double-check that both the path and port number exactly match in both applications.

    In DIM: Advanced Settings -> Installation -> "Content Database Base" & "Content Database Port"

    In Daz Studio: Preferences -> CME Settings -> Cluster & Port

    If they do exactly match then does the button next to the Cluster folder say Stop? If not, click it and see what happens - Daz Studio should start up the CMS as part of the boot process but maybe it's not doing that for some reason. Could be a permission or firewall issue on your machine?

    Also, make sure that your CMS is not somewhere that OneDrive can mess with.

    I've double checked again and the path and port numbers are exactly the same and have nothing to do with onedrive. It's simply all on my C drive. ( C:\Users\Krist\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\cms ) To verify that they are the same, I copied it from one and pasted it to the other. I made sure the cms was the folder selected. The port is also the same. I'm still getting the error.

    The button next to the cluster said 'start' so I hit start. I then hit accept and tried to logon through daz studio, and got the error again. I went back in and it said 'start' again.

    I'm wondering if I should try the 'public' folder instead of my 'krist' folder. Any ideas?

    In checking the error box more closely, 2 of the otpions concern me as I do not know how to resolve them: 1) Firewall software/hardware is blocking the connection to PostgreSQL CMS, and 2) The current user does not have permissions to execute PostgreSQL application files.

    I tried to run DAZ Studio as administrator and it won't let me do that.

    Any ideas on this?

    The second one seems a bit odd if that's the eaxct wording - but I definitely think that the first is certainly that has to be resolved to solve the issue.  Unfortunately, I am much more of a mac user these days and while I do have a Win 11 machine for rendering & gaming it has largely behaved itself and so I have not had to do too much messing about to get things working myself.

    Just quickly on the "Running as Administrator" I did read that this is likely to break stuff since it would cause folders to be created that your regular use does not have access to - and thus it should be disabled in both Daz Studio and DIM. If you somehow managed to do that anyway then perhaps this is why permission issues are being mentioned?

    Firstly, you should probably look into any firewall/security program you may have installed (e.g. BitDefender or Windows Defender)? You'll have to check in there to see if it's blocking applications from talking to each other - hopefully it has a log or something to show what it has done and so you can keep an eye on that while Daz Studio loads to see if it mentioned anything it has blocked.

    If that still doesn't work then it's worth having a peek at the folder permissions to see if anything odd jumps out from there. Next to the cluster path in the CMS settings is a little button "..." to change the path. We are not going to change the path but if you click it then it will open the current path in an explorer window. There should be a solitary folder shown called ContentCluster (if not then it seems that your CMS was not created or the path is wrong). Right click on the ContentCluster and select properties. From that popup select the Security tab. My windows-permission knowledge is a little lacking here as I don't understand why this does not show the permissions for the "Owner" - but perhaps these are grouped under "Authenticated Users"? On my machine, when teh "Authenticated Users" is selected in the top half the middle 5 permissions are checked so that should be the same for you, hopefully. Then click the Advanced tab to open another dialog box and check to make sure that the user you log in as is listed as the "Owner". If the owner is not you then this may be the problem and taking ownership might fix the problem.

    In the lower portion, check to make sure that for all items listed it says that the permissions are inherited from "C:\" which would mean that nothing in the path to this point has been "messed with". On my machine the permisions listed here are:

    Administrators = Allow/Full control
    SYSTEM = Allow/Full control
    Users = Allow/Read & execute
    Authenticated Users = Allow/Modify

    Hopefully that matches what you are seeing on your machine. If so you can click cancel on both popup dialogs and the explorer window. If anything in the permissions is not correct this could be causing the issue. Although it would probably be worth trying to figure out why the permissions are not correct rather than just trying to fix them.

    The next thing to try - if you haven't done too much with the new installation - is to uninstall everything via DIM and then try re-installing it. That may re-create something that was maybe not created correctly before? Keep an eye out for any errors during uninstallation which may point to permissions or file locations that may have somehow changed. Then, when you reinstall, carefully check the paths to make sure they are good locations (e.g. well away from where OneDrive can access). Not being much into Windows these days, I am not sure the significance of the "Roaming" subfolder but on the face of it that sounds like something to do with either syncing or sharing acrosss devices. Maybe that means nothing outside of Active Directory but I would lean towards staying away from that given you are having issues.
