Question about Baking shaders or textures

I have been looking at the daz studio shader baker, after making my own models, uvmapping them, i thought it would be great to bake on the textures.

I set the model up, add a shader i got off marketplace, set to single bake .. (( it only had 1 default surface)) set the directory to save the textures.

and nothing.. pure blackness.. no matter what i do with lights, ticking off and on illumination.. it 1) will not bake the texture or 2) all i get is a pure black image.

is there a special way of doing this, or setting it up?

    Iray can't bake textures, you need to use 3Delight renderer for that , make sure you select the material of the object under Surface tab  before bake all or just one selected .

    I use the Uber surface for bake the  ambient occlusion .. and use the standard view port light for bake textures
