Can two hands be parented to an object at once?

So using a g3m character I have him posed holding a rifle with the left hand at the handgrip/trigger and the right hand at the handle towards the end of the barrel. The rifle is parented to the left hand so whenever I move that hand the rifle will remain attached but the right hand further down is not parented to the rifle so it will go loose from the rifle whenever its moved. I have tried to parent both hands to the different parts but seems only one hand can be parented to the rifle at a time. Can this setup be changed so I can have both hands parented to the same object? I assume this is what happens regardless of what generation character you use also. Any help appreciated.

I would try parenting the primary hand to the gun, an invisible primitive sized to match the gun to the gun, then the secondary hand might be able to parent to the primitive.

First create IK chain on each hand, Group two IK chains, then drag / move the Group.

LimbStick is a Great Way to do these kinds of things.

Just parent the object to one hand, then pose the other arm to get the hand to make contact with the object.

Select the hand that's not parented, Ctrl+Click the object, then run LimbStick and it'll stick the hand to it all the way through

I'm not entirely sure what you mean here. Could you be so kind to give me a screenshot example? it would really help me out. Thanks.
