I went to load up DS 4.21 and its gone. Nothing in the programs, nothing in installed apps. GONE !! Where did it go?
Do I have to install again? and I suppose I lost everything and need to start over? I dont want 4.22..where can I get 4.21? its not in DIM either.

Would the log file be somewhere ?

If you didn't save a backup, then you are stuck with 4.22

  • you want to roll back or did it just uninstall itself?

    I am confused

Windows doesn't usually uninstall things, but maybe you can restore from to a backup? It sounds like something is fishy. This happened to my mom's computer after a windows update was applied and I restored to a previous version and it was fixed. I applied the update again and it worked. Not sure what my mom did to get in that state.

actually, there was one of those yellow boxes in DIM that wanted to be installed, it was an update to DIM ... i did it. Later, I hadd urchased a couple items, installed them, went to open DS and it was gone, although I just checked with wondows exploer and the files are still there. The shortcuts, the entry in the setup uninstall in windows is gone.

I will see if thee exe is in the files and hopefully that will work, etc.

no. I did it to myself. Why, though, did that update blow out 4.21? Fortunatly the content is still there but the actual program is gone as well. Even the install files for 4.21 are gone.  I ended up installing 4.22. Will have to suffer through the reality of it. It does load a lot faster though. It appears the figure loading is much slower.

  • good thing my internet connection on my Win7 is so flakey then

    I don't want THAT updating to 4.22

fortunately it saves my zips, I hope that doesn't get deleted too with this non download/installation

its strange, but there is no 4.21 zip in the dlownload files for DS. It was installed through DIM. I've had a lot of similar strange things happen to me with DS.

Are you working with DIM online? If so it will say 4.22 as that is the current package name - if you actually have the old zips working offline should show them. Of course if it is currently installed according to DIM it won't be in Ready To Install anyway.

If all you have lost is the shortcut just recerate it - find the application in C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4, right-drag the .exe to where you want it, and choose the Create Shortcut Here option. Or start it by double-clicking on the exe file, then right-click on the TaskBar button and select Pin To Taskbar if that is what you had before.

...there were a few times when I'd see a dialogue box pop up after opening which asked if I wanted to update to the newest version. I finally found where to disable that.

Of course if that happened I still have the 4.21.0.5  zip file saved (on booth the system and external media) so I could simply roll back. . 4.22 is useless for me as I too am on Windows 7.

No, since it doesn't have that as an option.

the exe is gone, as well as the zip that was downloaded. Its like it zapped everything when I installed the updated essentials that it was calling for. I did not install 4.22, which was also part of that package.

If the zip isn't there then you may have "delete after install" selected on the installation tab. Also of note, on the Download tab if you don't want it to auto-install on its own after it's downloaded then uncheck the "Install after download." Before you ever update DS go to the downloads folder for DIM, if you saved the zips, then copy the DS zip and place it somewhere you won't lose it. If you find you don't like the new version uninstall the old one and just don't update it when it shows back up in DIM.

fortunately I seem to have disabled downloading and installing programs and plugins in DIM on my Win7

I think I did this once I learned Nvidia drivers for Win7 will no longer be updated and 4.21 is the last version that will work

it is actually my Public Beta build

    my release build is 4.11

at present it hasn't got a card installed but my 980Ti is sitting in a box waiting until I can afford to have a repairer look at it (there are hardware issues)

have latest everything on my Win10
