Fur rendering weirdly in Iray Render

Hello

On the outfit Corveyn  , my fur cape is rendering weirdly, see-through like has you can see.

It's not the first time I have this problem, I had it with this, the boots would render as weirdly.

Tesselation is fine, can't get any better by setting it upper, and the PR preview thing is on.

Could ayone help me understand what is going on ?

Ps : Render is very raw here, but I got the same result even if I render for a long time.

That fur was made with Strand-based Hair Editor in DS... the quickest way is to Convert it to SubD (Edit - Figure - Geometry - Convert to SubD...), set Render SubD Level (Minimum) to 2 -3, it'll be much better.

Or you can modify it by yourself with Strand-based Hair Editor...

I converted it to Subd but it is quite weird still, like translucent :

Is your geometry editor or mesh grabber selected? That will do some weird stuff to strand hair.

  • I double-checked, they aren't selected :(

I wonder if you are trying to use the coat on a different figure than what it was originally made for?   Maybe the density map gets trashed when its converted?

That's because of the light background I believe, then it looks sparser... In this case, you may try to add more Density in Strand-based Hair Editor ( from 15 to 30 ~ 40...), before converting to SubD, as attached...

(or not so necessary to convert to SubD if you add more density. Converting to SubD just can make the fur smoother... so it's up to you.)

Pls be noted that the more density it has, the more resource (RAM & VRAM) it's gonna consume...

Turn Tesselation Sides to 1 (or 0 depending on type of SBH) to make those SBH into iray fibers.  This uses less VRAM and will be smoother.

Double the strand root and tip width, or triple it, or half it, etc depending on look you want.

    Increase density like 10-20x
