Yet another toon character. While I have no problem with those, per se, as it seems to be one of the few things that Genesis 9 does well, it does reinforce my impression that G9 seems to become increasingly less realistic with each new DAZ Core figure release, while the number of PAs producing characters seems unlikely to ever reach the level for previous figures due to restrictions of the process. The clothing set included with this bundle might be useful, but they are also extremely similar, which isn't that appealing with the higher than average promotion price. I'll wait to see if DAZ has an improved secondary sale tomorrow that takes it down into the mid-thirty dollar range where this Pro Bundle belongs, but at the moment it's an easy pass.
She is quite good as a toon style. I will buy her sometime next year like the rest I've put on hold. Upgrading all this hardware and buying a bunch of new Unity packages costs a lot of money.
Well, Genesis 9 bends like a Max Fleischer Cartoon, I guess it makes sense for DAZ to focus on cartoon characters. Just firmly planting their flag in the uncanny valley.
Which is a shame, because Maryam looks like a character that I might have liked and might have had a use for.
Super quick attempt to make non-toon-sized eyes (just iris size/eye distance/eye scale tweaks, and minor rotation/direction changes to look less cross-eyed) renders attached. Also have two random fabric textures applied to the casual hijab, look ok, although no hems. (First render has zero other changes, second one has Marli's skin and eye mats).
Yes, comes with the scarf.
Great, thanks for confirming!
Maryam
What do you mean here?
I think I'd like to have her dial but her mats are just so lacking... put more effort in to your characters please Daz.
I got the Myra Hair from Maryam's pro bundle because I think it would make a cute hairstyle for the fairy I want to portray with Josie 9. It counted as a Debut New Release, allowing me to get a discount on some other items as well.

Thank you! That looks fantastic.
Maryam again
Sorry Daz, but it feels like your just phoning it in now. The skin is entirely featureless and she looks like a toon. What's with the eyes...didn't anyone notice? Yeah, hard pass.
She looks great! But yeah, this reveals that her skin is indeed a bit lacking.
Huh? Your character looks adorable (as usual) but nothing like the Maryam promo renders...
That's excellent; that's how she should have been made. Have you raised the nose bridge a little? I think it's a bit too low in the original.
No, but reducing the eye distance probably made the upper bridge stand out a little more.
Oh yes, that could be the case. I would have reduced the eye distance too, but I don't have Maryam 9 yet. But it's good to see a successful adaptation; maybe she will find her way into my cart after all... ;-)
I'm chuckling a little. I'm sitting here reading all the negative comments about her large eyes - erm, uh, the large eyes are WHY I bought her so quickly! HA HA Beauty is in the (normal-sized) eyes of the beholder.
Picture this in regards to some random new character:
"AUGH! What an AWFUL looking character! Those eyes are so, <shudder> "NoRmAl-sized" - EW! Hard pass!"
We each like what we like.
I really like the toon shape (last promo) but now it appears that is one of the soon to be vaulted add-on shapes only available with the pro bundle? If so, why is a promo for a morph not available with the base character included? And as much as I like the toon shape, no way am I paying $119 for the pro bundle just for that. Another sale lost because of this stupid, predatory marketing strategy of DAZ's.
Yeah...they are not even remotely similar. Different skin, different eye color, different eye shape, different lips, different nose, different brow shape, Maryam has a chin dimple...
The girl on the left looks more like Aurora Fae for G8. She also looks more South East Asian than Middle Eastern.
Was confused why it looked like a thorne character, then I noticed who posted it lol
I would really like to know how Thorne made Maryam look like this. Any chance you would share, @Thorne?
I'm not convinced Thorne DID make Maryam look like that. That looks like a Thorne character raided Maryam's closet.
Huh, quite possibly you're right. But what does the post signify then? A new figure who is also called Maryam? Very confusing ...
The images I posted were the original Maryam as I submitted her (sans textures in any case). Since this was purchased by DAZ they have the right to change it as they see fit. Maybe they will release the orginal shape. She always had the chin dimple, but I made some images without it in early development (I don't know if it is still optional or not).
The texture used here is Helena by Maelwynn: https://www.daz3d.com/mw-helena-for-genesis-9
Thanks for the clarification... appreciate the insight.
Thanks for the interesting peak behind the curtains!
Thought I'd share some renders I tried out with Maryam 9...
Toon Style: 100% Maryam 9, 50% Stylized Skinny Girl, Maryam Texture with Cat Eye Makeup
Realistic Style (First Try): 100% Maryam 9, 30% Kala 9, Eye Whole Size -80%, Eye Whole Width -25%, 200+ Eyelids Lower Height Middle -25%, 200+ Eyelids Upper Middle 50%, MSO Dola Skin Texture, Chevybabes Natural Eyes (7), PhilW Ultimate Makeup
I might have to scale back the skin glossiness a bit...
Ooohhhh I love the mix with stylized skinny girl! I'm picking that one up today, it's so nice to see that she mixes in wonderfully with other characters!
