Unable to add smoothing modifier

Hi, while I am always able to add a push modifier, sometimes I am unable to create a smoothing modifier as I receive the error message "The following nodes were unable to have a smoothing modifier added", followed by the name of the item that I tried to edit.

Is there a way/a product in the shop to fix this??

Which items are refusing to take the modifier?

Normally if there's already Smoothing Modifier on the selected item, there will be such a message if you add the modifier to it again. Dbl-check it?
