Elf Ears Become Hairy? *Solved* :)

When I apply elf ears to a figure, an odd thing happens. As the ears grow longer, instead of poking out the top of sides of a hair, the ears become part of the hair instead. It looks really terrible and I don't know how to fix it.
This has happened with several different figures and different hairstyles as well.
I'm very new to DAZ studio and I don't know where everything is yet, so if anyone could please offer a step-by-step solution as to how I can fix this, I'd be really grateful.
I included a picture to illustrate the issue. Thank you so much for your time and assistance! :)

There are instructions in this thread: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/38214/
I have it bookmarked so I can find it easily.
Okay, cool! That's a good thread. As I'm trying to follow the instructions there I still have a bit of trouble. Under "Parameters" I'm supposed to find a "Show Hidden Morphs" button and turn it off? I'm not seeing any such button. What does it look like?
I'm really very, very new at this so I'm still unfamiliar with DAZ's layout. Thank you for being patient with me! :)
Ok each Pane has a very small stripped options box and the attached image shows. Click on the that and you will see at the top on the new sub menu pane "Show Hidden Properties" not Show Hidden Morphs
Szark and Kismet, thank you for helping me, I really appreciate this. I think I can see the Hidden sub menu as described now. Am I in the right place here? I do see something that mentions the ears, but I'm unsure of how to turn it off.
ok cool. above the figure of 73.3% should be a little paddlock icon, it the far left icon of the 3 on that side. Click on it and that should let you dial it to 0%
You're awesome, Szark, thank you so much. :) I've got it set to 0.0% now, but there is still a layer of hair over top? Here is an update with the photo and the slider at 0. Is there a next step?
ok what's next to check...try expanding General in the Parameters Pane (I;e; the same pane as your above screenshot) by clcicking on the small black triangle to the left of the word General see if there is Mesh Smotthing. What this does is to make the hair collied with the figure and with that the ears. But I am only guessing. ;) Turn it off at the top of the mesh smotthing window and see if that fixes it.
You give very helpful instructions! Thank you for making this easy for me to follow. :) As the general menu expands down, I see three things; "Transforms", "Misc" and "Mesh Resolution", but I don't see anything mentioning a Mesh Smoothing!
My pleasure
I am racking my brain to what to try next...I can't remember if Auto Follow can be turned off. Not having the hair doesn't help me to help you so I am guessing. It there a "Fit To" function in the parameters pane under Misc. If so click on the figures name in the Fit To slot and choose None. If the hair moves then it will have to be placed manually with the translations sliders in the Parameters Pane or with the Translation Tool (Tools Menu). Then once in place head in to the Scene Pane expand the figure tree so the head is visible and drag and drop the hair on to the head.
To recap by removing the Fit To we are stopping the Auto Follow and then so the hair moves with the figure we manually parent the hair to the head.
.
Hurrah! That worked! I unattached it, dropped it onto her head and the ears showed through perfectly. It even follows along when I pose her! :D
Thank you so much for all your help, Szark. It was really kind of you to talk me through all of this. I can have lots more fun with DAZ studio now!
I am happy to help where I can, I am not alone on this site for doing that. :) Glad you got there in the end, I bet you learnt a bit doing that. :)
