Shader depth

I don't know if anyone else has had this issue but I'd thought I'd bring it up anyway. I recently brought - https://www.daz3d.com/scale-shaders - and would like to add it to the skin surface of a character who is part reptilian. My main question is, can we change the depth of the shader? 

So far, I've managed to changed the size/scale of the scales themselves using the horizonal and verticle tile settings in the Surface tab but the depth of the scales remain the same. Ideally, I'd like the scale not to be so bumpy but I can't find the settings to adjust them. Can anyone help?
