Move content back and forth to Lightwave?

I'm a longtime Lightwave user (call me a serious hobbyist, I guess - not a commercial user).   I've never mastered their rigging tools, which are waaaaaaay powerful and very complex.   I messed around with Poser but could never get myself to like it - it was pretty clunky (sorry, Smith Micro).   I just downloaded Daz Studio (4.8) and love it, it's great, and intuitive, and I can see myself doing a lot of work in it.   But I'd really like to know how I can move content back and forth from Lightwave to DAZ and back again.   The last version of Poser Pro (2012) had a neat Lightwave plugin called "Poser Fusion" - you could build your scene in Poser, save it and pull the whole thing into Lightwave.   Is there anything like that available, or planned, for Daz Studio?

  • No, there isn't a direct embedded data plug-in like Fusion. DS does support FBX and Collada export, but when I tried them way back in DS history (3.soemthing or 4.0 perhaps, using LW 9.6 which is all I have) the imported figure needed a fair bit of tweaking - there is, or was, a special readme on FBX to LW though depending on which version of LW you have it may no longer be apposite. There are also .mdd (via AniMate 2) and Alembic (separate plug-in) exporters if you just want to play the animation in LW, which would be similar to the Fusion workflow as that - to my knowledge - requires posing to eb done in Poser.

  • Thanks!    I'll check the FBX export stuff, that is looking more and more like the "weapon of choice" for attacking this problem.   If I find anything interesting I'll post it!
