KuJ Fighter = P51d Mustang?

I have purchased the product KuJ Fighter created by the artist Kujira.

Howerver, although it is described as a "classic historic fighter", no where is there an indication that it is the legendary P51-d Mustang.   I've looked at the detailing and can't find a difference (in fact, I've flown in a P51-d Mustang).

Can anyone tell me whether they agree, and why the plane is *not* identified as a Mustang?

Here are the images of the artist's product and an image of the real thing:

DAZ is really on top of avoiding copyroght issues and this is prodably way this and other items like celebrity look alikes don't have their actual name. In the Flightsim community, you need to pay a hefty license fee to use the actual company name on a 3D model like Cessna.

  • I think it is strongly inspired by the Mustang, with the distinctive intake under the fuselage and the rest of the general design, but the drop tanks indicate that there is some artistic license in play as well.

  • I *think* I see what you're indicating.  The original drop tanks had a slightly more teardrop shape that tapered more sharply to the rear.  However, there may have been other versions of these tanks.

I distinctly remember that in the late 1950s and onward, unused tanks became valued as they could be redesigned with wheels and an engine for a mini-racer.  Regardless, the artist Kujira did an excellent job...kudos to him.
