Saving Poses and Creating a Load Icon?

I know how to save and load poses, but how does one create the load icons? So instead of navigating to where I saved the pose by some name, I want to be able to find an icon so I can see the pose I made before I load it, and I want to be able to double-click it and load just as if I bought it.  Trying to find tutorials seems impossible, as they are about saving poses only, and not creating the load icon for them.

Thanks for any help!

How are you saving poses?   When I use File > Save As > Pose Preset, I get a DUF file with an icon of how my applied pose looks in the Viewport.   As long as it is saved in any DAZ Studio folder inside My DAZ 3D Library (or whatever folder you use) that is all you need to do.   The icon and DUF file can be moved to anywhere that you find convenient (in a mapped folder of course if you want to see it inside DAZ Studio)

If you talking about adding it to the Smart Content, you can simply drag-n-drop it into the pose catagory you want from the Content Library.A window will popup asking you what type of asset you have.Select Preset>Pose.

  • All that comes up when I use Pose Preset, is the folder where to save it. When I type in a file name and then up pops the "Pose Present Save Options." I save it, and that's it. To load it I have always been going to File-->Merge to get back to them.

Just now, however, I did realize that where I was saving them was not in my DAZ Studio directory. So I went and copied all the .duf and .png files in that folder and placed them in a new folder in Runtime--> libraries--> Pose. But although the folder shows up, nothing else does ~_~ It's just... blank. No icons.

Oh, and to icecrmn, I do not actually know anything about "Smart Content". Never learned it >.>

I did open the Smart Content tab but I don't get what you mean by "drag and drop" ....drag what? I cannot select a pose. And trying to drag in the .duf file doesn't work either.

They are DAZ Studio format files, they wont show up in a Poser runtime (with out making a dumby .pz2 file with the same name as the .duf file).  Use the Content Library pane to navigate to a Studio format folder/library and use the + sign at the bottom to save to that folder.

There should be a Pose folder, already, under each figure...something like People > Genesis 2 Female > Poses.

Create a folder in there (either your name and then subfolders for each grouping of poses...one for full, one for face, one for partial, etc.),  Then save them to there.

You shouldn't need to 'Merge' them, either...you should just be able to select the figure and click (double click) on the icon and it should apply the pose.

A lot of people miss this cool function.

Open The Content Library Pane (NOT SMART CONTENT) and you can right click in the folder directory and make new sub folders. Also you can select a folder and at the bottom of the Pane there are  + and - buttons, Click on the + and save your pose preset and the preset will be saved to that folder and will appear in the folder you selected. You can save your preset outside of the content library directory but you would need to map the new folder's location in the Directory Manager so the preset shows in the Content Library Pane.

As mentioned all DAZ Studio formats need to be placed in the Daz Studio format section of the Content Library Pane.

To add a rendered Icon for your preset. Set the render dimensions to 91 X 91 and render your pose, save as a PNG with the same name as your duf pose preset and place in the same directory.

  • jestmart, I did not know that! Very interesting to learn.

Szark, THANK YOU~!! That is exactly what I needed, it worked!

  • Oh, two more questions, sorry. I am trying to save an archery pose, not only with Genesis but the bow itself.

How do I save the bow's pose so I can have the prop go into whichever hand I need it? In other words how do I save it parented in a certain position? If I go to 'heirarchal pose' it only shows me the bow and the arrows parented to it.

Secondly, I saved the bow's pose so it was drawn back perfectly, but when I went to test the pose, it is not drawn back. Not sure if it seems possible but I guess it is not a big deal.

    Thank you for the links!

I guess I have another question too. How would I create a load icon for a prop that I have? It doesn't have a load icon so I need to make it myself but cannot figure out how.

If it is not already in DAZ Studio format (DUF etc), then save your prop as a Scene Subset, and that will create a DUF file with an icon.   As long as it is stored under DAZ Studio Formats (NOT the Runtime folder) it will appear in the Content Library pane.    You could also use Save As > Support Asset > Figure Prop Asset it will also create a DUF file wioth an icon, and can be saved in a DS folder.   It has a few more options, but Scene Subset would be the simplest method to Merge the new Prop into any scene.

  • Thank you! :D
