Looking for some tips on saving poses.
Hello,
I am using G8.1F and I have lots of morhs and character packages installed. Consequently it takes a long time for a character to load. A very long time. However, I can live with that but I think that having all of the morphs and characters installed may be causing me issues when I try to save and apply custom posess. When I save a pose, I save as a pose preset. When the list of items shows up asking to check all of the items I want to save, I first unselct everything. Next I expand the list so that I see hip and then select all of the nodes under it, I do not seelct anything under pose controls because I don't use them, or very rarely . I make sure translations are selected and then I save the pose. It seems to save okay. However when I try to apply the pose, it takes forever to apply. As long as it takes to load a character and maybe longer. That shouldn't happen because when I apply purchased poses or poses save by other folks, they apply fairly quickly. I have tried using products such as Pose Fusion + to save the poses, and watched several videos to see what they are doing but I have the same issue. None of these really explain in detail what I should be doing with repect to the list of items I am to select from the pop-up list. Am I doing something wrong? And if so can someone explaing to me what it is?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

For what it's worth I do not have this trouble, especially since making C:\ drive with all of my DAZ stuff a 500 Gb SSD instead of an actual, Winchester hard disk. And I have 16 Gb RAM on the main board which might be helping. Studio loads INSTANLY which was a pleasant surprise; I just now noticeh that Corel Draw is likewise and instant load. Rendering is a differenty story as I do not have an Nvidia 3060 video card.
I don't do anything special with saved poses... I did not know that you could (or should) adjust some things.
I don't know the answer to your issue but it made me remember Generation 4's Power Loader. What a WONDERFUL thing that was! I wish they had implemented something similar for the Genesis series of figures, because, yes, I too am startting to think twice about buying additional characters just because of how long it takes for my figure to load!
(psst, Daz... Bring back the Power Loader please?)
When the save pose pop up arrives, click on the three bars in the top corner then select Only all transforms only.
The pose you save will now load much faster and will not change things like the expression
As for the long time of loading a character, pls go to DS menu: Help - Troubleshooting - View Log File..., Ctrl + A, press Delete key then Ctrl + S. Close the log file. In Ds, load your character. After loading it into the scene, attach your DS log in here. We may help to check.
As for the long loading time of the Pose Preset issue, first use the option as per the attached screenshot to exclude all Pose Controls, then retry. If the issue persists, attach your Pose Preset file as well. It should be easy to identify the problem...
Thank you Havos and crosswind I will try your suggestions. One thing I did find is that when I look at a purchased pose file in an editor (Notepad) I can read it but the pose files that are created when I save a pose appear to be encrypted. Do you know why that would be happening?
They are not encrypted, they are just compressed. You should be able to open the file in a zip file reader. Or unclick the compress option when saving the pose and it will save a file that you can open in notepad.
Ok, thanks. Is the compress option on the save window pop-up? And by the way, I tried the suggestions that you and crosswind provided and the poses saved perfectly and are working great. Thanks!
Yep ~ uncheck Compress File when saving a Preset... in Screenshot 1.
As for uncompressing DUF file, just go to DS menu - Windows - Pane (Tab) - Batch Convert... Screenshot 2.
Thanks again crosswind. I appreciate everyone's help.
As an aside, whenever I save a pose I always save a 512x512px or 512x256 or 256x512 (depending on pose image proportions) rendered .tip image. It helps my tired eyes see the pose in enough detail to see if it's the one I'm interested in. I do find it much easier than trying to guess from the default 91x91 px image. And with recent high dpi screens, 256x256 is starting to get a bit small.
Regards,
Richard
Thanks for the suggestion richardandtracy. I've never saved a .tip image before. How do you do that?
And does anyone know where I can find a good description of what all the various options are and what they do in the Pose Preset Save Options window? I can't find documentation of what the different selections are. This question applies to almost all of the windows and panes in Daz Studio. I wish there was a decent reference manual available for Daz Studio.
