Field Mounting a Mech

This is the latest animation I've been working on. I spent a lot of time last week blocking it in. Basically just forward keyframes at about 30 - 90 frame intrevals. Then I went back and corrected some major arcs or anamolies in-between. So there are a lot of keyframes, but it's still just blocked-in at this point. Next on to a polish pass and then probably another polish pass.

It's meant to be "stock footage" so that I can use different cuts, camera angles, scenes or portions of the animation anytime a driver 'field mounts' a machine. It's all done in the Daz timeline now, but I'll save an Aniblock when I'm done. Of course, I've animated the entire sequence so I could do a single, uncut shot of the entire scene, if I choose...

Here is the link. I'll update this thread as I make progress. Probably after the next refinements are comlete and then the final render(s)! Thanks for looking!

Here is another pass at the animation. This time rendered out in iRay so I can see some of the end results better. Probably one more time through with some fine tuning (polishing) and then it's finished! I need to do a lot of 'smoothing' to get rid of some of that 'stop-motion' kind of look. I see it alot in the beginning and some in the middle. Kind of choppy. Probably from always animating Mechs...I use Daz Studio so I don't have to animate humans! LOL

    ...on to another one...

Excellent job with the keyframing, JigSaw.

There are a couple of spots where things don't quite line up..like when she puts her foot in the hatch.  It's turned so that it looks like her heel should be catching on that edge, but there isn't space for it, but if it were turned so that the toe of her boot was in there, it would fit.  I think there's also a spot where her knee passes through one of the grab bars...I'd need to look at it again, but there's an odd jump over one of them (around 14 secs).

Thank you, Greg! That's important to me since the keyframing is the backbone of this kind of animation for me.

Yes, there are some spots that don't line up and, honestly, there are some spots that just look wrong because of a bad camera angle. Also, there are some "poke through" issues and some misaligned geometry, for sure. The camera path I've set up is just so I can see how well it flows. Not that I will use a contrived camera angle to make up for misaligned animations. I'm just saying, some of it doesn't look quite right - that's what I'm going to resolve on the next pass. Along with cleaning up some jitters and fixing any intersecting geometry. So all the feedback I can get is very helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to look at the details!

    Thanks again!

I do miss the edit deck that I used to play around with...going frame by frame over every edit was so much fun (NOT!).  I know what you mean, after a while a couple more sets of eyes will pick up things you've missed.

Over all, it's a great clip.  And  the general path is fine, finding fixing the little bugs will kick it up a couple of notches.

Looking really good!! Do you have GraphMate? For smoothing parts of animations using key frames GraphMate seems to be a good tool, worth a look at the videos to see I'd say. Looking forward to seeing this progress :)

Thanks! Yes I have both graphMate and keyMate. Personally, I don't think animation like this is possible in Daz Studio without those two add-ons.
