ooh - 1.1 TB of files... huge. I guess it was good I bought a 4tb drive
Yeah, that's a lot to download. The last time I had to do that, I started with the newest stuff I was most likely to use. There's a lot of old stuff I still don't have installed and stuff I know I won't use. I hope your internet service doesn't have a download cap. Mine has a 1.23 TB limit per month, so I took my time and spread out the downloads as needed. It sounds like you have pretty fast internet speed at least.
I always download my entire collection. It takes me a few days because I sort my legacy Pose-file content inti their various categories, but it's worth it. I like having it All at my fingertips.
I still use V3 and M3 (and their families) stuff on my Genesis figures - so... yeah. Lots to download! :)
pretty fast - 600mbps . Thing is, it all depends on what DAZ can spit out. Not sure if there is a way to find out. I dont believe there's a cap, about to find out I guess
I've downloaded it all a couple time previously. Its been awhile though. Yeah, I think it good to have a copy. You never know what might happen to DAZ, or even your own circumstances.
I remember google picasso (it went poof). I use adobe (disappointed it went subscription). I remember NSF (vaguely). My downloads, if started anew, would be 2.9 TB of content, IF I were to download it all to a fresh drive. Considering I really started buying in 2017, that's a scary thought. Although I have 2 ssd 2TB internal drives on each of my main 2 PCs, I own several a huge amount of external 4TB SSD drives because downloads for me never only inculed DIM Zips. I learned the hard way when a machine fails, and all your stuff is stored on internal drives, it sucks. Sometimes Dim does not download all files. There are a truckload of manual texture zips, manual installs etc., not to mention pdfs, readmes or promo images . . . without promo images I think, what the heck it is this and why did I buy it, and pray for restored brain cells. And those product names . . . some of those names UGH . . . still blow my mind and make me think WTF is this I bought and I rename it to match the product it was an add-on for. Ripping out hair is not my fav pastime, so I bought additional drives for manual downloads. Yes, as time goes by, (while we examine our wrinkles in a 3x mirror (and think will I ever find this s@#T so I can use it), things disappear and there is nothing but a zip file to inspire us. If artists move on (and if I wrote a book about discontinued products, it would challenge the page count for my memoir books) we are left with nothing but a vanilla zippered folder. Sure we can scrounge reap and pillage the wayback at times but that's not the best solution. So i say buy more drives. Have certain drives dedicated to genres or generations, and buy more drives to back up stuff. So yeah I agree, You never know what might happen to DAZ, or even your own circumstances, as daveso said.
Edited to add images
You are very brave to do it all in one go. I started downloading my stuff using the "Smart tab" thing before Christmas. Then, changed my mind and used the DIM... I'm STILL installing and using the DIM! LOL
Good luck on the reinstall!!
I use disc images + repoint Daz = done in 60 seconds on a new PC.
I have all 8100 DIM daz zip installers by themselves on a external USB M.2 NMVE 2TB SSD now but have yet to purchase a 2nd idendical SSD to make a backup. At 0.98TB I'd hate to have to do what you are during now!
I get a scare sometimes when I start DIM without plugging in that external SSD beforehand and DIM tells me I need to download & install all that DAZ Studio stuff & all 8100 DIM zip installers in my library.
You can never have enough storage. I have over 42,000 DAZ products plus 14,000 From Rendo, and a few thousand more items from other stores... and that's before I get to all the freebies, cross-generation conversions, original characters and kit-bashes, and 2D assets. On my primary computer that's currently spread over an array of 12 internal and external HD & SDs, most of which are sitting on a 4-shelf metal shoe rack I converted into an external Hard drive storage center... and have 2 2TB SDs, four 6TB HDs, and one 12TB HD all still in the box on stand-by.
oh --- now what didn't download? How do I know? All the files are already downloaded though... It was done when I woke up this morning.
