OT - Weird Display Artifact

Artifacts have been randomly appearing in random sizes and random parts of my monitor for a few months now.  This is the first time I've managed to photograph one before it disappeared.  Does anyone have any idea what might be causing them?

Monitor: 32" BenQ PD3220U
GPU: ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 3090
Driver Version: 31.0.15.4601
Driver Date: 10/26/2023

How often do these Goslings appear?  Do they ever mature into geese?

Are yu able to try the monitor with a different computer, or the same computer with a different monitor?  Or a different cable (same or different interface?)

    Nope, and nope.

Or a different cable (same or different interface?)

Yup.  It's currently using a Display Port.  I'll try HDMI.

This looks similar to what I was getting last year, also with a 3090.

    See attached screen shot.

I was also sometings getting when doing a render a blank screen, with the computer still on and the cards fan still going full blast, just not sending any signal to the monitor, and having to do a hard reboot to get a picture back.

I have a Dell which was under warrantee, and eventually they decided it was a failing graphics card, which they replaced and I have not had any problems since.

Little artifact squares all over the place for me, especially when moving the camera around (or sliding a mouse cursor around--it doesn't just happen in Studio, it sometimes happens in other apps), always means that my Nvidia drivers have gotten a bit too old and I need to upgrade them, especially when they're out of step with the version that the apps are secretly requiring. What this means in practice is that generally if I upgrade Studio I must also go upgrade the drivers.

Mine don't exactly look like your sample. They are, however, similarly elusive. Anyway, it couldn't HURT to update your video drivers, and I know there have been drivers for a 3090 more recent than November. (EDIT: Hmm, I also have a 3090, I wonder when I last updated mine ... mind you, I also haven't updated Studio ...)

The artifiacts started appearing long before I last updated my driver.  I only included my current driver version for reference.  Nevertheless, I just checked nVidia's site and the atest driver was released today.

Quick update:  My Display Port cable may have gone bad.  I've been using HDMI since last night and haven't encountered any issues yet.

Good to hear, hope that solved it.

Bah... Followed up too soon... Another artifact just appeared in the middle of my screen and disappeared a second later...

In September I bought a new PC with a 4070 and regularly get those artifacts, but only with the Brave browser while on the net. I'd love to know what causes it too.

EDIT - I remember now I could fix it by disabling Brave hardware acceleration but it runs slow so I just live with it. Seems to be definitely GPU related.

I just realized I'm ony getting these artifacts when browsing static content on the web (articles, message boards, etc.), so I looked up browser artfacts and found a whole bunch of threads on various boards going back a year reporting the same problem.

I'm still looking for a solution, but at least I now know whatever's happening is only impacting browsers.

EDIT: I may have found a fix through reddit.  Someone suggested going to:

    chrome://flags/#use-angle

and switching ANGLE graphics backend to OpenGL.  Here are the links:

Final update.  No issues since implementing the fix I posted above.  Problem solved.
