Amazing alternate shapes, indeed, and one of them is visible on this render on the left of Xola 9 main shape:

Pro Bundle: https://www.daz3d.com/xola-9-hd-pro-bundle

Starter Bundle: https://www.daz3d.com/xola-9-hd-starter-bundle

Xola 9: https://www.daz3d.com/xola-9-hd

The promotion active for Xola 9's debut will likely be visible on this page, but as I'm writting this message, I'm redirected to the shop main page:

Brilliant. Really promising character, and the alternate shapes are exactly what I've been wishing they'd do with the alternate shapes concept from the jump.

Looks good, but the store page won't take me to the intro page. I can look at the components from the general store list, but the intro page is MiA. So I've no info regarding any connected offers.

Would be interested in knowing where the various dreds in the promos came from. I suspect they are Samsil's but there doesn't seem to be any info on the main product page.

Very impressive character! And the Joy Hair is really great, too.

Is it just me, or have Daz's African characters had consistently great skin textures for a while?

Yeah, it is. And the New-Year-30 coupon seems to have been designed for this release. Tokens help, too. It's down to a fairly reasonable total with what I have. The PC+ coupon doesn't kick in until tomorrow, but I think I'll save that one for later in the month.

I might regret it. But still...

Those dreads are definitely a possibility.

We are the 1st of February: the PC+ coupon should work.

  • JOdelJOdel Posts: 6,286

Ah. So we are. Well I have it for later.

It really does look like a current pattern of releasing some very nice PA content with enhanced tokens, or a sudden DAZ+ coupon issued right before a new Pro bundle drops. Something to be aware of, anyway.

It isn't just you. In earlier G8 days a good African skin texture was a rarity, but in the last year or so I think every one I've noticed has been top notch and a real enhancement to the character. Slight caveat - I don't really look hard at G9 at the moment, I feel that I still haven't adequately explored the limits of Generation 3, let alone getting good enough to effectively explore Generation 9.

    Regards,

    Richard.

Finally not an old white man, but a young black one. Very good; I like Xola 9 and he's already in my cart! He's not a beau like Lawrence 9, but neither is he a slightly strange looking fantasy figure reminiscent of prehistoric man, like some of the black male characters of a certain PA. Xola is just a normal young man, and perhaps that's why he's so versatile. His female version looks good too, as do the 'pudge' and the older version. The skin seems to be fantastic! I can't do much with the outfits. The 'Urban Office Outfit' is too clichéd for me; the jumper from 'BW Kwame Outfit' has a great pattern but is cut disproportionately. A little longer and with a slightly less wide neckline and I would have bought it. 'Joy Hair' looks great, but the rastas from 'HS Kevin Hair and Beard' have too thin tips to look 'real'.

I really like his face sculpt and his face textures. The rest I can work with.

Couple of quick test renders before bed using his HD. (I just purchased the figure.)

He's a big boy compared to Lawrence:

Would be interested seeing renders of the female version

Do the default Xola and feminine Xola have the same face shape?

I agree that the BW Kwame Outfit looks odd to us, but I went and looked at a history of male sweaters for the 20th century and noticed that during the 1930s to 1950s, the sweaters often ended at the high hip, instead of the lower hip. Possibly due to the impact of the depression and WWII rationing. The neck, well I agree, weird but one of the two styles provided is a sweater that opens and that may have been the source. I love the fabric designs that are offered. Also, I have noticed that offen our PAs have clothing to us before they are available in stores. This may indicate that male sweaters are going the way of female crop top everything. (One style I wish they would stop. Who wants to wear a crop top in -17F weather?)

The HS Kevin Hair, I took a look at it and can't tell if it was straightened or not to make the twists. I have been enjoying the more natural look of African hair in the recent decades. I remember my friends in the Air Force in the early 70s having to straighten their hair to conform to military standards until it was approved to have a short Afro style.

I forgot to check out yesterday, so that coupon is still in play. I have 6 tokens, the coupon and the Pro Bundle comes in at $28.08, add-on at 86% and 79% (LI Body Bristles for G9) and two older items by Aeon Soul I wishlisted, total $52.63 and that leaves me $0.89 in my store credit.

DAZ you always offer a gift card just before I pay off my credit card bill. How about a new 20% off Gift Card deal now? Hmmm?

The coupon was issued yesterday and specifically labeled "Today Only" - I imagine many have already used it.

And the price for Xola without the coupon isn't very attractive.

It would be nice if Daz could get their act together.

$95 for the pro bundle. No thanks, I'm finding AI to be a better option for what I do.

Yep. I only used my coupon yesterday because it clearly said "TODAY ONLY"  and now I will have to miss out on the new Pro Bundle which I like because it is otherwise too pricey for me. Grrr!!!  no no

Little issue with the pro bundle.  They have the feminine alt shape there as well as the alt shape bundle with includes the Feminine shape.  Might want to fix that DAZ.

i like the pro package a lot. Unfortunately, its beyond my budget. The skin texture looks really good. I can get it down to $53 buying two adds and using the 30% off coupon. $67 total. without the add ons it come to $70.

If I may ask, what do you do where AI is a better option? (No I am not making this an AI discussion - I really am curious about what you are doing.)

Throw in an additional (3rd) add-on to bring the price down a bit more.

It's not that. The mid section should be more paunchy is what they want to portray. Maybe if they rendered him from the side and standing more slouched.

I am glad they included elder, husky, and feminine shapes so buying can use in a variety of story art the same look of the main character.

I think a lot of Xola looks good. I'm not anywhere near using G9 though. And as I have 0 tokens, I will surely suffer an out of budget error.

It has the shaps and the shapes bundle and the Starter Bundle and the parts from the Starter Bundle - not sure if it is an error or way to adderss having the bundles still appear in store evn if we own all the parts.

I asked my flatmate who works in retail if he has seen hair like the Kevin Hair and yes, all the time. Including one of the employees. Straightened, then twisted into fine dreads.
