Genesis loading times are insane

Loading Genesis 8 into the scene takes more than a minute. Even loading a plain grey figure without any morphs, textures, clothing. It is a bit less with G9. However I have most of my assets on G8. In the logfile there are multiple errors of targets that are not found. They come from assets I had installed long ago and are now faulty. I know there was a discussion about this, but there was no solution for that other than just delete all the problematic products. This would be quite some hassle and there would be the danger to delete something wrong in the data folder. I tried to work through this mess and gave up.

So my question is, has this problem ever been adressed? Would an update to 4.22 change anything? I could imagine that changing the whole load procedure would be a complete solution, not loading targets that are not used in the figure for instance. Or a way to remove targets from a figure.

I'm sure you must've known the loading time depends on the number of G8 morph assets (DSF files) that you've installed, so more or less you can estimate the loading time. The loading performance in 4.22 has been significantly improved (50% - 65% of time saving) , suggest you go for an update.

As for "target property not found" message (warnings rather than errors...), it's commonly-seen and pretty normal. It means that a morph asset has a Controller morph of which the related product you don't have or haven't installed. So don't worry about that. As long as there's no duplicate formula issue, you'll be good.

  • 4.22 certainly feels a lot faster to me.  It's just below my personal "this is getting annoying" limit.  But I don't have very much content so I suppose it'll be worse for others.

I've got appr. 26K+ G8.xF morphs activated (with Turbo Loader), with 4.22, loading time of a G8.1F Dev Load (with cached files) is 28.5 seconds, zero error, zero warning...563K formulas resolved. 4.22's performance is far beyond my expectation.

@crosswind mentioned Turbo Loader, but didn't really expand on the benefits. Yes, many morphs will slow down the process. With it you can selectively enable or disable loading any and all morphs, individually or by product. Indispensable.

Turbo Loader for Genesis 8 and 8.1, and the additional Turbo Loader Booster Utilities.

A rather lengthy discussion here: [Released] Turbo Loader for Genesis 8 and 8.1 [Commercial]
