Know what I mean know what I mean?
  •  What's it like? / wink... HappyheartDay!  / But all seriousness aside, I'm always setting the nudge (nudge, wink, wink) to .001 to get some fine control when the default setting is usually 1. There was an xmas freebie script last year (I haven't tried it yet) that gave some functionality to setting it. / (nudge, nudge, winkwink/ peace (say no more)

  • Thanks, all! A couple of days ago, I finally got around to testing Code66's Nudge Adjust Christmas freebie (I've been using Wearables Off all this time, but almost forgot there was another tool in there). And then it occurred to me to wonder: what is a nudge?? Anyway, past that now.

Come on, someone else ... surely other people have Stupid Questions of the Day. laugh

OK my stupid question though it's probably more Poser related as that's where it started

what bright spark decided the Runtime folder should contain all the user data for the program?

I mean isn't that usually a library for codey stuff

Because rather than being a library compiled into the program, it's data that's read in when you run the program.

That's the only explanation I've ever heard for this, and it is a good one.

Okay, so here goes: I keep getting lost in all the Iray surface settings, the names never seem to mean quite what i think they do (if I even have any clue at all). So what is the one setting that I need to change if I want to make metals shinier, without any fuss or other ado? Or is it always a matter of different interconnected settings? Sorry, I do realize that it's a REALLY stupid question (actually two).

Every shader is a little different, but in general, turn dials with "roughness" in their names DOWN to make things shinier, and dials with names like "glossy weight" UP. The first supercedes the second: turn "glossy roughness" down.

That is so helpful, especially the second part - I could never figure out how to handle these combined things correctly. Thanks very much, have a lovely day/evening!

My turn for a stupid question:

Is there a character limit to a post on Daz Forums and if yes, then what is it?

Yes, it has been an issue sometimes with link-heavy threads (to images or tutorials/references) - I can't recall what it is though.

OK.  Silly question for the day because the following can make expressions more time consuming.

Do the devs know the difference between singular and plural nouns?  Slider both eyes is "Eye side to side."  Below it, there's "Eye left, side to side" and "Eye right, side to side."  Why isn't tne one controlling both still called "eyes" ?   0_o

I don't know either, but over 3000 words and some 20 attached (small) images went through.

I work in a hospital so I could give you a VERY long list of stupid questions that I get on a daily basis.... None of them related to Daz, though.
